How you make a difference:
The Medical Director oversees all clinical programs, both new and existing, and reviews and schedules any necessary changes or additions, providing recommendations to the Hospital Administrator. They are involved in the assessment, planning, linkage, monitoring, and advocacy of patients assigned to clinicians in specific departments. The Medical Director also develops and conducts educational programs related to drug and alcohol abuse, participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning conferences, and ensures the comprehensive delivery of quality mental healthcare in accordance with hospital protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervises psychiatric care and practices, representing the hospital on committees, projects, and initiatives, reviewing referrals for admission, and liaising with advocates and families.
  • Leads peer reviews, attends court proceedings and multidisciplinary teams, and oversees clinically based PI and best practice projects, chart reviews, and mortality reviews.
  • Manages physician recruitment and retention, including evaluating clinical competency and performance.
  • Coordinates medical student rotations, providing orientation, lectures, and training.
  • Provides direct psychiatric care to patients, including evaluation, treatment, and psychotherapy, in compliance with state and federal regulations and patient safety protocols, and maintains knowledge of nursing services and related policies and procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Osteopathic Doctor (DO) from an accredited university.

Experience

  • Seven years of professional experience in providing services to persons with psychiatric disabilities, two years of which must have been at the administrative clinical level, assistant director or its equivalent.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Licensed in state of employment to practice medicine. Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
