JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Medical Education Manager, Australia Dept: Medical Education APAC

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for maintaining and furthering Arthrex medical education in Australia and to assure the department continues to be recognized and respected among peers and the medical community. This position will oversee all medical education including medical education personnel, strategy, and implementation of strategy. This will include all medical education training requirements of Australia’s healthcare providers and their sales representatives.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in one of the Biomedical Sciences or teaching preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of knowledge and experience in orthopaedic surgery and instruction (arthroscopy preferred).
Proven experience in developing hands on instructional training curriculum
Must have an in-depth knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, etc.
Knowledge of orthopaedic products.
Must be willing and able to travel up to 40%.
Excellent oral and written English communication skills.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS/SPECIALIZED COURSES AND/OR TRAINING:

Ability to communicate and interact professionally and meaningfully with HCPs.
Ability to teach and develop training curriculum materials is required.

MACHINE, TOOLS, AND/OR EQUIPMENT SKILLS:

MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook plus any additional communications equipment as needed.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to comprehend and apply mathematical principles to the degree required to perform the job based upon job requirements.

LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Ability to comprehend and apply language skills to the degree required to perform the job based upon the job requirements listed above. Ability to verbally communicate ideas and issues effectively to other team members and management. Ability to write and record data and information as required by procedures.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee in-country medical education and lab services personnel, strategy, and implementation in accordance with the Global Med Ed policy.
  • Develop, coordinate, and provide instruction to visiting surgeons, agents, and employees on relevant anatomy, surgical techniques, and products.
  • Establish medical education strategy and objectives through annual needs assessment aligned with Med Ed APAC strategy.
  • Oversee all medical education including planning of medical education events based on assessment of HCP educational needs and feedback from HCPs.
  • Prepare medical education events annual plan with events coordinator and schedule regional events involving local and regional HCPs.
  • Interact with all surgeon client population, leading surgeons, and surgeon consultants on related affairs.
  • Work directly with surgeons and customers on projects as needed and manage consulting surgeon relationships.
  • Manage and deliver program for professional development of employees on anatomy, products, and surgical procedures utilising online and onsite training.
  • Manage the planning, implementation, and delivery of cadaver surgery workshops in Australia including quality and service and provide direction, assistance, and support to HCPs as appropriate.
  • Develop educational materials and other resources, e.g., online or web resources, etc., for the advancement of medical education for both surgeons and employees as required.
  • Provide strategic direction and study validation on biomechanical, biologic, and clinical research with research team.
  • Provide strategic direction and quality validation on marketing and advertising materials.
  • Oversee all consulting surgeon relationships including negotiations, agreement terms, and agreement compliance in collaboration with Director MedEd APAC.
  • Ensure Arthrex Inc and APAC compliance policies and guidelines are followed by working closely with APAC Compliance and those responsible for compliance in Australia.
  • Ensure all internal approval processes are followed and contribute to process improvement.
  • Under guidance of MedEd Director APAC, develop and update SOPs for Med Ed Department and communicate these processes to relevant staff in Australia, APAC, and Inc./global teams as instructed.
  • Provide guidelines and support processing HCP expenses with finance department for medical education activities.
  • Provide advice on the medical education aspects that impact the regional strategic direction, product development, and business strategy.
  • Provide leadership, management, and development of the Med Ed Team including (but not limited to):
  • Recruitment & retention
  • Performance management
  • Individual development planning
  • Succession planning
  • Employee communications, and
  • Creating positive working environment to ensure high productivity, employee engagement, and performance, adhering to the values and upholding the culture of Arthrex through one’s behaviour.
