Description:

To assist in the management of a wide range of electronic, electrical, mechanical and pneumatic medical, laboratory and other equipment, used by the Trust, including involvement in the commissioning of new equipment and the implementation of day to day scheduled and unscheduled maintenance procedures.
The EME Support Technician is responsible for the day to day functionality, calibration and electrical safety of a range of often complex and technologically advanced medical electronic devices used in an acute hospital environment requiring an in depth knowledge of current medical device technology. Carry out routine maintenance, calibration and electrical safety testing of medical/laboratory equipment. Provide day-to-day operational support within the EME Department. Train medical and technical staff in the use of medical devices.
Departments furnished with these services include all Wards, Outpatients, Accident & Emergency, Endoscopy, Physiotherapy, Pathology Laboratory, Teaching Centre, Administration, all Clinics and Health Centre’s and Patients in the Community who utilise Trust equipment.

Liaise with medical, technical, supplies department and equipment manufacturers regarding technical information regarding equipment maintenance, defects and failures.
Discuss problems and possible resolutions with staff regarding service requirements.
Trains medical and nursing staff in the correct use of new equipment
An ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff, suppliers and customers under all conditions of urgency.
Assess and diagnose problems on technically complex medical devices, some of which are connected to patients.
Problem solve/analyse a series of events that led to the problem occurring and advise staff on the correct course of action to take.
Implements routine calibration/maintenance/electrical safety procedures including personal responsibility for the day-to-day calibration of specialist items of equipment.
Diagnose problems on all types of medical equipment requiring good levels of manual dexterity.
Carry out calibration and routine maintenance of medical equipment used in the diagnostic and therapeutic treatment of patients.
Work within and support departmental policies covering all aspects regarding quality of service and health and safety.
To be aware of and comply with the relevant safety regulations, codes of practice and standards concerning the handling, decontamination and administration of medical devices.
Maintains stock levels, re-orders spare parts and accessories for medical devices
