Description:
JOB OVERVIEW:
The Mental Health Associate provides care for the patients and maintains a safe environment under the direct supervision of the registered nurse. All methods of practice shall conform to written hospital policies and procedures and be carried out to the highest achievable level of competence in a manner demonstrating concern and consideration.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- BA/BS degree in a psychology related field
- Or 5 years of related experience in a psychiatric service setting
- BLS Certification through American Heart Association
Preferred:
- Previous experience in a psychiatric setting
Scheduling Requirements:

- Full-Time
- Day Shift
- 36 hours/week
- Every other weekend rotation
Essential Functions:
- Assist with procedures, examinations and consults etc., under the supervision of the RN
- Assist with admissions, discharge and/or transfer procedures
- Collecting specimens (urine, blood, throat cultures, etc.)
- Maintains ongoing observation of patients throughout the shift and reports change to the licensed staff member responsible
- Obtaining patient vital signs, weights and I&Os
- Patient intake (demographics and history)
- Performs nursing activities under the supervision of the RN
- Supervising/assisting patients with activities of daily living, encouraging appropriate behaviors
- Participates in treatment team and related care plan updates.
- Provides a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service
