Description:

Reporting to the Police Psychologist, the Mental Health Clinician will provide clinical mental health services to employees of the Winnipeg Police Service through counselling and therapy sessions. This position works within a collaborative Behavourial Health Unit to support the ongoing mental health of Winnipeg Police Service employees.
The Mental Health Clinician supports the implementation of the Service’s mental health strategies and develops partnerships with internal stakeholders to expand and deliver mental health programming and education.

As a Mental Health Clinician you will:

  • Provide clinical mental health services directly to both civilian and sworn personnel
  • Organize and provide education and training sessions for supervisors and members on a variety of mental health and wellness topics.

YOUR EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Master’s Degree in Counselling, Social Work, or recognized equivalent from an accredited university.
  • Current Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), or other related training, course work, or certificates in the field of mental health and wellness is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years experience
  • Experience providing mental health services to police personnel or other first responders is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of community resources for mental health is an asset.
  • Comprehensive understanding of mental health and wellness programming.
  • Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Ability to select and implement appropriate interventions for members experiencing a variety of psychological concerns, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse, and to make referrals to appropriate community resources when necessary.
  • Demonstrated basic level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Ability to interact with members, supervisors, and senior management to resolve complex challenges.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and presenting.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute multiple tasks and projects in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a very reactive environment and be able to adapt rapidly to change.
  • The ability to establish and maintain a positive, respectful, safe, and healthy work environment that supports the physical, psychological, and social working relationships with members at all levels in a team environment

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • No involvement in any criminal activity within the last two years (including illegal drugs)
