Description:

An opportunity has arisen for a mental health practitioner to join the established mental health team at HMP Bedford.
The applicant must hold a professional registration either, RMHN, Mental Health Social worker or Occupational Therapist and will have previous band 5 or equivalent mental health experience.
HM Prison Bedford is a Category B prison for men and young male offenders, it holds remand and sentenced prisoners from aged 18 upwards.
The Mental Health Team is part of the integrated Healthcare provision at HMP Bedford. The Mental Health Team covers a seven-day service, during core working hours, the post holder will work as an integral member of the team delivering and providing a comprehensive safe, effective mental health service that encompasses primary and secondary mental health provision within the prison, ensuring a Trauma Informed co-produced recovery focussed service.
The post holder will utilise a variety of practical and theoretical knowledge with the team to deliver both individual and group workings with service users open to the Mental Health Team, following the stepped care model approach.
The post holder will support the Mental Health Team Manager in ensuring the effective delivery of the operational procedure.

THE POST HOLDER WILL:

  • Undertake mental health assessments, risk assessments, and care planning, and implementation and review of service to people referred to the team both individually and with colleagues from other disciplines.
  • To care coordinate those on CPA ensuring that reviews are held in line with policy and guidelines.
  • To manage a caseload and to prioritise effectively.
  • To participate in multi-disciplinary team working to ensure service user’s needs are met.

To use effective judgement and interventions in emergency clinical situations.

  • To liaise with other professionals and agencies in the planning and delivery of care for service users ensuring that a quality service is provided within the locality.
  • To develop and maintain productive working relationships with your team, managers, and other colleagues.
  • To take personal responsibility to keep your knowledge up to date and to reflect on and evaluate your own values in the development of your practice, to maintain up to date professional registration.
