ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

Are you an experienced mental health practitioner with strong clinical skills in the areas of crisis intervention and support for post-secondary students? CBI Workplace Solutions is seeking a Registered Psychotherapist, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist or Registered Nurse for placement at Canadore College in North Bay. Student Success Services includes a multi-disciplinary team that supports Student Success and Retention and fosters a healthy environment for students to engage and thrive in their learning and development. The Mental Health Navigator works closely with the team to support students’ mental health and wellness to assure the provision of holistic support to students. The position requires a service-focused professional who treats others with respect, values their time, strives for personal best and collaborates to improve services experience for all.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a student-focused approach to success wherein students are engaged as partners in learning and all stakeholders are viewed as customers. Engage community partners in supporting student success
  • Manage caseload/workload for the provision of direct mental health and learning supports to students including but not limited to:
  • Crisis intervention for students exhibiting significant levels of distress
  • Needs assessment of students with non-urgent, self-identified mental health issues/concerns
  • Solution-focused brief interventions that provide coping strategies and resiliency building based upon the student’s own strengths
  • Be responsible for working effectively and collaboratively with a team of learning and mental health professionals to provide concurrent support to allow students to thrive
  • Make appropriate and effective use of self in clinical setting
  • Prepare and deliver presentations at conferences and workshops
  • Participate in staff meetings, educational conferences and workshops
  • Collaborate in the development of guidance and counselling programs
  • Facilitate psycho-educational session and supervise peer support programs
  • Consult with faculty, parents and community resource partners
