About the role
We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Mental Health Worker to provide community programs and services that respond to the marked increase in mental health issues in the East Lake Macquarie areas.
Reporting to the Corps Officer, this is a Casual position based in Belmont North, NSW. Salary and conditions are in accordance with SCHADS Level 3.

You will successfully

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate community development and engagement activities that meet identified needs.
  • Build a culture that is based on a person-centered, empowerment approach that breaks down barriers and invites people to have a sense of ownership.
  • Identify potential funding opportunities and partnerships to ensure viability and sustainability of the Corps and its programs.
  • Establish and facilitate groups for people experiencing mental health challenges.
  • Provide one-on-one fee-free coaching & support sessions for those with low-income status.
  • Provide effective referral pathways to other relevant services within and outside of The Salvation Army.
  • Identify and address risks to clients, personnel and The Salvation Army.

You will have

  • A NSW Working with Children Check.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (i.e. Social Work, Community Services) at degree level, or diploma level with experience in social work, community services etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating community-based activities.
  • The ability to provide one-on-one coaching, support or counselling services in accordance with the Australian Counselling Association’s code of ethics and practice.
  • Experience managing volunteers or employees.
