Salary: £25,147 - £27,596
Job Type: Full time, Permanent
Due to growth of the department, an additional post of Technician has been created. We are currently looking for a qualified technician to join our growing team of engineers who maintain, repair and calibrate medical devices located in community clinics and nursing homes in the Tameside, Glossop, and Stockport area.
It is expected that you will hold a Diploma in Electronics or Equivalent HNC plus Short Courses. Be registered (or working towards registration) with the Engineering Council as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) and hold a keen interest in self-development. The post holder will be expected to manage their own workload, work within a team to support each other, and communicate effectively. You will perform maintenance and repair work unsupervised, recording all work performed onto a database.
In return we will offer you a salary of between £25,147 - £27,596, with access to the NHS Pension Scheme. You will be supported in your development, and actively encouraged to improve your skillset in order to improve succession planning and providing opportunities for career progression. You will receive support to maintain a minimum 30hrs CPD per year, access to further education utilising the apprenticeship levy and paid study leave.

The post holder will play a key role in the continuous development of all services provided by Medical Equipment Services. Being one of the departments Technicians, you are expected to work towards becoming registered with the Engineering Council as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng), and as part of a team lead by example. and support other staff members within the department.
Have specific responsibilities in supporting and developing equipment maintenance and repair services in the community Teams including the ongoing expansion of our Digital health team.
Perform work primarily in community services across Tameside and Stockport, but you will also be required to carry out work at the Tameside Hospital site.
Maintain, repair, and calibrate a wide variety of medical equipment utilising specialised test equipment and precision tools.
Interpret vague fault descriptions received from the customer, confirm the fault and use your experiences to diagnose and rectify the fault. Ensuring that upon completion of any work that the equipment is in full working condition before release into a clinical environment.
Participate in the installation and commissioning of new equipment and the decommissioning of equipment deemed in need of replacement.
Utilisation of the stock control system in line with departmental procedures.
Accountable for all the work you perform, and ensure that this is performed to the expected standard.

LEADERSHIP AND ADMINISTRATION

Responsible for the security and safekeeping of medical equipment ranging in value from £50 up to £200,000. Security must be maintained to prevent theft, damage or tampering which may affect its intended use in a clinical environment.
Ensure that all standards and legislations are adhered to and work within Trust policy, departmental guidelines, manufacturers recommendations and other forms of guidance at all times, seeking advice from more senior staff when required.
Input work performed onto the Equip database ensuring an accurate record of work performed by you or further work that you have identified. Maintaining records to show reported faults, work done, hours used, parts used and decontamination status for the lifetime of each individual asset.
Maintain records to help manage the lifecycle of medical equipment on the Equip Database. These records will be maintained for acceptance of new equipment, decommissioning of redundant equipment, tracking loans and trials.
Working within the remit of the SLA to deliver a gold standard service for the Community Teams
Represent the Department and Trust when external contractors are on site, when attending seminars related to your specialty and when attendance to any meeting is required.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of departmental protocols and practices so that they are compliant with manufacturers recommendations, and align with ISO 9001:20015 Quality management system.
Prioritise own work and work of junior staff when necessary. Identify priority jobs awaiting attention and deal with promptly and appropriately. Arrange visits to customer premises to accommodate their needs, adjusting your workload to suit.
Communicate with a variety of people, internal and external to the Trust, utilising appropriate effective language for the audience. For example, holding a technical conversation with other engineers or relaying technical information to non-technical staff in a manner they understand. The communication will be both written and verbal.
Maintain Strong customer relationships so that when answering requests from customers and suppliers you determine accurate information of faults, concerns, product information, timescales or any other information required.
Deal with technical and administrative nquiries from customers and suppliers and logging of jobs reported, be that written or verbal.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

You will work towards IEng registration with the Engineering Council through an appropriate professional institution, and exceed the required annual CPD.
Communicate effectively and courteously with all colleagues be that internal customers or external stakeholders.
Communicate sensitively and understandingly when informing customers of any delays that prevent delivery of their devices back into clinical use. Ensuring that you are empathetic to the impact that the lack of these devices will have on their services.
You will maintain competence in the field of medical equipment maintenance, allowing for effective, safe, and efficient maintenance, repair, and calibration to be performed. It is expected that you will work on all types of medical equipment in Acute, community and, where required, the Stockport site.
Maintain proficiency in your specialist fields ensuring that you attend any training courses offered that are relevant to completion of your work.
