JOB SUMMARY:

We are looking for a Sr. Principal Power Design Engineer to assume a key role as a member of the Multi-Function Products elite team of engineers. This role is in McKinney, TX.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 10+ years of related experience
  • Design, analysis, test, and simulation experience with linear converters, and familiarity with all of the following non-isolated converter topologies: buck, boost, buck-boost.
  • Professional design, analysis, and simulation experience with at least three of the following isolated converter topologies: flyback, half-bridge, full-bridge, forward, push-pull, resonant.
  • Experience with schematic capture tools such as Siemens DxDesigner.
  • Experience Using tools such as MATLAB, MathCAD, Mathematica, or other similar tools. Must have experience developing templates with these tools.
  • Transformer and inductor design, analysis, test, and simulation considerations in power electronics circuits.
  • EMI Filter design, analysis, test, and simulation considerations in power electronics circuits.
  • Analog electronics design, including all of the following: FET/BJT logic level, op-amp, high/low/band pass filters, clock/data termination, and comparator circuits.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Digital power electronics design, analysis, simulation, and test. Includes familiarity with embedded systems architecture and firmware development for digitally controlled power supplies.
  • Utilizing and creating electrical design specifications.
  • Designing at the power system level to meet concerns of adjacent disciplines, such as thermal, structural, mechanical, reliability, and quality.
  • Wide bandgap devices (SiC, GaN) in power electronics designs.
  • Circuit simulator SIMPLIS, and/or system simulator SABER.
  • Siemens Hyperlynx.
  • Acting as a liaison between program and functional management in a cross-matrixed organization.
  • Military specifications.
  • Design considerations for voltages > 400V and/or power > 10kW.
  • Three-phase power systems, power factor control, and inverter/rectifier development.
  • Motor control development.
  • Program management tools such as Earned Value.
  • Proposal development.
  • Guiding drafters through the ECAD process, including the layout and routing concerns specific to non-isolated and isolated power electronics. The ability to roadmap PCB design relating to power electronics circuits as it pertains to the direction of future business.
  • Experience leading larger teams, and experience working with other team leads toward a larger goal.
  • Direct experience managing customer relationships.
  • Experience communicating and documenting technical topics at the small and large team level, and experience presenting to upper levels of management and customers.
  • Experience conducting trade studies relating to power electronics architecture at the power system level and, the ability to review related work completed by junior engineers.
  • The ability to roadmap transformer and inductor technologies as they pertain to the direction of future business.
  • The ability to roadmap EMI Filter design in power electronics circuits as it pertains to the direction of future business.
  • The ability to roadmap analog electronics design in power electronics circuits as it pertains to the direction of future business.
  • Experience with requirements definition early in the design cycle.
  • An understanding of switching converter control techniques and modes such as voltage mode, peak and average current modes, their advantages and disadvantages.
  • The ability to roadmap power electronics technology use as it pertains to the direction of future business.
  • The ability to roadmap PCB design relating to power electronics circuits as it pertains to the direction of future business

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, analyze, simulate, test, and document power conversion circuitry potentially utilizing any standard power conversion topologies (non-isolated and isolated) with the primary emphasis on board mounted power end use applications.
  • Engage in road mapping activities.
  • Architect at the power system level.
  • Oversee circuit card, stack, and power system development through its design phases, from requirements definition through initial integration testing.
  • Define and execute schedules for circuit, circuit card, stack, and power system level tasking.
  • Guide ECAD drafters and junior engineers through layout and routing activities. Define layer stackup definitions. Act as an expert regarding creepage and clearance concerns.
  • Lead large teams to success with schedule, budget, and technical execution. Manage related risks.
  • Engage in personal technical growth, and facilitate technical growth in peers and junior engineers.
  • Drive the capture of opportunities needed to mature the organization on the technical front.
  • Clearly present work product of your team to functional, program, and corporate leadership. Guide junior engineers on technical presentation skills.
