Description:
MICROBIOLOGIST I
As the Microbiologist, you are responsible for performing the full range of examinations and analyses, recording, interpreting, and result reporting of tests on on environmental air samples, human body fluids, tissues, clinical specimens, microbiological isolates, or environmental or food samples submitted to the Laboratory.

Responsibilities:
- Perform real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing for SARS-CoV-2 to support outbreak investigations and surveillance monitoring.
- All testing must be completed using established standard operating procedures.
- Prompt and accurate reporting of results is required.
- Perform QC and QA on analytical tests through daily monitoring of assays and by participating in proficiency challenges.
- Accurately complete worksheets for testing and equipment maintenance.
- Alert supervisor when essential supplies are needed and when equipment is not meeting performance requirements.
- Troubleshoot and work with technical support to resolve any instrument issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned including serving as a member of the Disaster Response Team as needed to assure the agency’s public and environmental health response is adequately staffed during and immediately following natural and/or man-made disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and/or acts of terrorism.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s in Biology or related field
- Must have taken 6 credit hours of Biology courses, 6 credit hours of Chemistry courses, and 12 credit hours of a combined total of Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry. Microbiology.
- Knowledge of PCR and ELISA preferred
Hourly: $20-22/hr
