About the Role
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Mine Electrical Tradesperson to join Loy Yang’s Mine Maintenance team. You will be responsible for providing electrical maintenance services including, but not limited to, high voltage operation, breakdown fault finding and repair and scheduled maintenance, inspections, and routines across a large brown coal mine. The role will be based on a 2x12 shift roster.

What you’ll be doing

  • Provide electrical maintenance and operating functions, planning, scheduling, completion, and reporting of planned and breakdown works
  • Prepare, issue, design and cancel permits as required in the mine permit to work systems
  • Provide instruction, direction, coordination as required to peers, leaders, and other tradespersons to ensure personnel are fully utilised and work is completed as effectively as possible
  • Perform high voltage works and repairs as required
  • Ensure all work is initiated by, recorded and maintained in the Computerised Maintenance Management System

About You
This opportunity will suit an established Electrician, ideally with experience within a complex, heavy industrial setting (open-cut mining advantageous, however not essential) with exposure to heavy equipment & high voltage distribution and substations.

What you’ll bring to the table

  • An “A” Class Electrical Wiring Licence (VIC).
  • Hold, or be capable of obtaining a High Voltage Electrical Operator Authorisation.
  • A working knowledge of electrical procedures and permit systems within a heavy industrial environment including:
  • Electrical maintenance routines;
  • Cable jointing principles and practices;
  • Electrical permit systems;
  • Electrical Safety Instructions;
  • The Code of Practice for work on or near high voltage apparatus (Blue Book)
  • A detailed understanding of the operation of complex electrical systems, electric motors, transformers, HV distribution and substations.
