REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering
  • Registered member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario
  • Minimum (10) ten years of experience as a Mining Engineers
  • Previous experience in a senior level role in Mining Engineering.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Mining regulations including Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Deswik Suite (CAD, Sched, IS, SO, MDM)
  • Able to read engineering plans with a good understanding of ground control, mine planning and Geology.
  • Good working knowledge of underground mining procedures and maintenance requirements.
  • Experience with mine planning and scheduling, ground support practices and ventilation systems.
  • Good financial knowledge and skills,
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, have good judgement, organizational and planning skills.

Responsibilities:

PURPOSE

Reporting directly to the Technical Services Manager, the Mine Engineering Superintendent is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction to the Technical Services Engineering team including Mine Planning, Rock Mechanics, Survey, and Ventilation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide governance to ensure compliance with Newmont standards, guidelines and policies
  • Manage all activities of the Mining Engineering Department, such as short-term and medium-term planning, planning of drill and blast of long-hole stopes, evaluation of reserves, rock mechanics, surveying, ventilation, backfill planning, etc.
  • Lead the engineering systems for underground mining to ensure safe and efficient mining operations
  • Provide technical direction to the engineering team to achieve productivity metrics
  • Oversee major engineering projects and mine infrastructure (dewatering, power, compressed air) using effective project management methods
  • Liaise with other departments such as Production Geology, Long-term Planning, Mine Operations and Processing
  • Lead personnel, evaluate performance and implement employee development programs
  • Prepare the budget and forecasts
  • Develop and implement in-house training programs for engineering functions
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SME) and external consultants
  • Regular underground workplace inspections
  • Drive full potential projects to optimize underground mining performance
