About the role
We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Mission Leader to develop and implement a local mission plan and provide Christian outreach and support.
Reporting to the Area Officer, this is a permanent, full-time position based in Queanbeyan, NSW.

You will successfully

  • Create a warm, welcoming community hub that promotes the Salvation Army’s key missional priorities: creating faith pathways, caring for people, building healthy communities, working for justice.
  • Cultivate deep understanding of community needs/ goals and develop plans and initiatives in response.
  • Respond to pastoral and spiritual needs of the community.
  • Provide Christian outreach and support.
  • Facilitate faith community gatherings/ worship, discipleship groups and special events.
  • Build strategic relationships with TSA service providers (Doorways, NILS, Moneycare etc) and other service providers to effectively address the needs of community members.
  • Recruit, induct, train and supervise volunteers for different functions and events.
  • Develop budgets and monitor finances.
  • Oversee property maintenance and repairs.
  • Secure funding to ensure the ongoing sustainability of all programs.
  • Undertake other duties as relevant to the role and/or as required by Area Officer/s.

You will have

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum diploma level) in theology, mission, teaching, psychology, social work, youth work or community services, or significant demonstrated equivalent relevant experience, knowledge and skills.
  • A valid Working with Children Check (NSW)
  • A valid NSW Driver license.
  • Current First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • A strong commitment to the Christian faith and mission of The Salvation Army; a solid understanding of The Salvation Army’s doctrines and principles.
  • Current knowledge of child protection policies, legislation and mandatory reporting requirements.
  • The ability to offer pastoral assistance, to offer prayer and to explain the Christian Gospel.
  • 2 years plus experience in leading and developing teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging effectively with people from diverse cultural, socio-economic, educational and LGBTIQA+ backgrounds.
  • Self-motivation and a high level of initiative.
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills (both oral and written).
