The Basic and Clinical Neuroscience Department at King’s is committed to advancing the understanding of the nervous system in health and disease through research, education, and clinical interventions. Professor Thuret and Professor Giese are co-leading the department to provide the best possible environment for world-class fundamental and clinical research in neurodegeneration and mechanisms of mental health while they strive to promote a culture of collaboration, research integrity, respect and inclusivity amongst members of the fundamental and clinical neuroscience community.
The Department of Basic & Clinical Neuroscience is situated in the Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute on Denmark Hill Campus. It is home to The Wohl Cellular Imaging Centre, the UK Dementia Research Institute at King’s and the newly established UK Motor Neuron Disease (MND) Research Institute. Furthermore, by working closely with King’s College Hospital, Guy’s Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital, we ensure novel treatments are both effective and practical.
About the role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Coordinator at the World renowned Kings Motor Neuron Disease (MND) Care & Research Centre. The successful candidate will work alongside 5 consultants, 2 clinical nurse specialists and the wider MDT to deliver and coordinate MND specialist care within the specialist clinic and across the South East region.
The purpose of the role is to manage the day to day running of the MND Care and Research Centre, to coordinate activities and to develop the service. The post holder will also be responsible for coordinating local care for people living with MND and supporting primary care teams.
The post holder will work closely with the Motor Neuron Disease Association (MNDA), Kings College London and Kings College Hospital to ensure world class treatment is consistently delivered as well as planning the implementation of emerging treatment options.
The MND Care and Research Centre was the first of its kind in the U.K. and is an internationally renowned research centre. The post holder will work closely with the MND trials team to ensure high quality delivery of clinical trials within the service as well as planning the implementation of new and emerging treatments.
This is a full time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 30/09/2026.
About you:
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
1. Professional qualification in social work, nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, dietetics, speech and language therapy or similar
2. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisation and management skills
3. Knowledge of clinical service, service improvement and monitoring of service delivery
4. Previous experience of working with people with disabilities, in both a hospital and a community setting
5. Ability to motivate and lead a team
6. Ability to deal sensitively and positively with people who have a terminal disease, and with their carers
7. Ability to work independently within a multi-professional team
Desirable criteria
1. Post graduate qualification (or work in progress)
2. Previous participation in research projects
