Description:
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to work as a molecular pathology technician as part of the Liverpool Ocular Oncology Research Group (LOORG) at the University of Liverpool (UoL) in close association with the Liverpool Ocular Oncology Centre, at the Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust. You will work under the direction of the leads of LOORG, Professor Sarah Coupland and Dr Helen Kalirai to provide the genetic testing service for ocular cancer patients and also provide support for sample collection and data entry for the Ocular Oncology Biobank. LOORG is a successful and internationally renowned research group investigating cancers that arise in and around the eye.
This will require skills in molecular pathology and genetics, in particular with experience in working with human material, DNA extraction and PCR. Previous experience of working with healthcare professionals is also required.
You should have a degree in Biomedical/Biological Sciences (or equivalent qualification or relevant professional experience) and have comprehensive computing skills in particular with experience in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of legislation surrounding ethics, patient confidentiality and working with human tissue is essential. You must be able to work proactively and independently with the ability to communicate at all levels.
