Description:

As a band 6 Radiographer at Worcestershire Acute Hospital Trust (WAHT), there is an expectation that you will use your experience and knowledge to support both the staff and service users where appropriate. This also includes any modality leads, site leads and senior managers. As such you will be expected to: -To consistently produce high quality, diagnostic imaging. -To deliver excellent patient care, maintaining high safety standards.

  • To plan, prioritise and organise the workload. -To maintain appropriate stock levels and adhere to infection control measures. -To be actively involved in departmental audit, quality assurance and quality improvement programmes. -To demonstrate effective communication with all staff and departments.
  • To assist the Site Lead to develop protocols and techniques. -To adhere to departmental policies and procedures. -To train others and supervise junior members of staff. -Contribute to the out of hours, extended day rota.
  • To vet referrals according to the Systems of Work in operation. Key tasks and responsibilities Clinical and Service Provision Provide a specialist clinical service and advice in a variety of clinical settings and disciplines for staff, patients and carers. Effectively liaise with multidisciplinary colleagues, patients and carers as required. Triage referrals from a variety of sources/ manage clinical priorities according to agreed protocols, working practices and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Can work autonomously as an expert practitioner within the specialty, delivering individualised direct patient care. Can work within a team and where required, lead a small specialty team in order to deliver effective direct patient care. Maintain up to date clinical competence and the highest professional standards. Practice within a risk-benefit framework, having regard for the MRI Local rules and safety measures.
Where required, ensure that all generated images are appropriately and correctly labelled in line with trust requirements. Where appropriate, assess patients and make reasoned decisions to initiate, continue, modify, suspend or cease imaging examinations, advising others in complex situations. This may include deciding on the appropriateness and suitability of specific exams considering physical and psychological parameters. Where there is a requirement, supply, administer medicines within the legal framework and associated Trust Patient Group Directives (PGDs).
Utilise advanced knowledge and skills relating to the speciality to provide specialist advice to other members of the multidisciplinary team on the basis of image quality and clinical evaluation / reporting. Provide a seamless, high quality service from referral through to justification, authorisation, imaging and where appropriate clinical evaluation (reporting). Support senior managers in the development and maintenance of referral guidelines and policies for the service as required. Communicate appropriately with patients and their carers, making reports if appropriate and liaising as required with medical staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team both verbally and/or in writing as required.
Participate in the active engagement of service users through patient and family feedback, user groups and support groups when required. Use professional judgement to act as an advocate for patients to ensure a patient focused approach to the delivery of care. Support and enable patients and carers to make informed decisions relating to their examination, intervention and management. Escalate any concerns via the radiographic / professional structure as required.
To ensure that agreed Quality Standards for Imaging (QSI) services are met in accordance with national and local performance KPIs as required. Report and raise concerns related to Safeguarding, accessing advice and support as required being conversant with Trust policies for safeguarding including the assessment of mental Capacity, and consideration of Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards(DOLS) and the application of the principles of Prevent (counter terrorism awareness). Ensure effective and accurate verbal or written handover of patients between healthcare professionals. Ensure that high standards of all documentation are maintained, with accurate, complete and up-to-date information regarding patient care are kept in accordance with Trust and Directorate standards and processes.
Monitor the quality and standard of care provided by members of the team and staff in clinical areas. Identifying any skills or training gaps and escalating to the appropriate service Leads or relevant line managers. Where a requirement is identified, undertake training to develop further advanced clinical practice roles required by the service in order ensure we continue to provide a high standard of patient care. To work within the Health & Care Professions Councils Standards of Proficiency - Radiographers and Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.
Where required participate in rosters that incorporate extended 7 day working and work on different sites in accordance with service needs. Ensure that all equipment belonging to and found within Radiology is operated safely. Report and stop the use of equipment where there is any risk to patient, staff or itself. Report any defects, malfunctions or faults at the earliest opportunity to the relevant site service lead Record all actions taken with respect to such equipment.
Ensure the maintenance of safe, clean and tidy working environments, particularly the adherence of infection control procedures and promote and ensure the same among all staff. Expected to participate in role expansion where required. Professional Leadership and Management To safely and efficiently organise and prioritise workload in a departmental section or area, taking into account the patients clinical condition and referral clinical information. Where appropriate, to lead, supervise, advise, support and train Radiographers, assistant practitioners, Radiology Department Assistants, apprentices, students working in the same departmental area/section.
To support senior leads in the management of staff sickness, where appropriate to include receiving of calls, organising required cover, sickness reviews and referrals to occupational health as required. To organise and prioritise the daily workload and all aspects of imaging examinations as appropriate, taking into account the demands on the service and maintaining efficiency. To support on the implementation and training of new techniques and equipment whilst ensuring that consistent competencies are achieved and documented in the appropriate way. Support with and maintain a robust training plan to support countywide working.
Education Maintain skills in all areas of Trust mandatory training by attending lectures and training sessions on manual handling, adult and paediatric resuscitation, fire and security and data protection. Act as an expert specialist educational resource for clinical staff, patients, and carers by providing formal and informal education where required. Promote and develop a positive learning environment throughout the Trust. Act as mentor / assessor to staff members and students as required, providing educational advice and support.
Audit and Research Lead on individual audit projects as required by the Radiology service, involving collating, analysing and reporting on results of the audit process. Participate in research projects as required, disseminating and ensuring utilisation of research results to change practice
