Job Title : MRI Technologist 1
Location: Jackson, Mississippi
Job Summary :
The MRI Tech 1 arranges patients for Magnetic Resonance examinations. Working under the guidance of MRI Tech 2 or above produces MR images to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems. MRI technologist monitors and ensures safety of patient and all personnel prior to entering magnetic area. Performs patient screening by using established protocols for any ferrous materials and medical device history and for safe administration of contrast media. Uses pre-established imaging protocols and departmental policy to perform safe operation of imaging equipment and all functions of the job. Provides complete pre and post education to patients and family. Reports to Manager or Supervisor

Experience, Education, Training, Special Skills, and Licensure :

  • Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technologist Program

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, ARRT (R), Mississippi License, Basic Life Support, BLS - HCP

  • Radiologic/MRI principles and theory, anatomy and pathology processes utilizing the most appropriate technique an/or positing for optimal examinations are utilized at all times as evidenced by exam results.
  • Policies and protocols are adhered to ensuring all examinations are optimized for interpretation, as demonstrated by exam results.
  • Radiography students are taught sound radiography principles as required by Organization as evidenced by documentation.

  • Patient/General Safety: This will have been satisfactorily performed when�
  • Effectively communicates with patient to obtain clinical history/informed consent from patient or patient’s chart to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination, as evidenced by the exam results.
  • Procedures are explained to patients/families and technologist answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation, as evidenced by customer satisfaction.
  • Assistance is provided to the physician in performing a variety of examinations using standard department protocols, isolation precautions and/or sterile technique, as evidenced by physician’s satisfaction.
  • Clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams are identified and take appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome, as evidenced by exam results and patient satisfaction.
  • Patient safety is demonstrated in department by use of side rails, braking mechanisms and patient monitoring as evidenced by risk management reports.
  • The technologist reports, documents and corrects any adverse, unsafe or unusual conditions, as evidenced by the patient/employee incidence reports.
  • The understanding of IV’s, heparin locks and central line usage as they pertain to Computed Tomography is demonstrated, as evidenced by observations by supervisor and peers.
  • Equipment Maintenance: This will have been satisfactorily performed when�
  • An orderly, safe and clean state environment is maintained and rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies and has required with supplies readily available for procedures at all times.
  • Imaging and other related equipment is operated according to manufacturer’s specifications, and performs daily calibration and adjustments as required and evidenced by exam results.
  • Equipment is troubleshoot effectively and immediately and reports equipment problems to biomedical engineering/vendor, as evidenced by service reports.
  • The need for routine maintenance of all MRI equipment to maintain consistent quality images is performed/recognized, as evidenced by the physicians satisfaction and the exam results.
  • Documentation/Communication: This will have been satisfactorily performed when�
  • Patients are correctly identified along with their files ensuring a high degree of accuracy, as evidenced by the lack of mislabeled studies.
  • Patients are tracked according to department procedures, and technologist can Identify errors and takes immediate action for corrections, as evidenced by the RIS reports.
  • The technologist participates in department/hospital performance improvement initiative, in-services and meetings, as evidenced by attendance records.
  • Magnetic Resonance safety: This will have been satisfactorily performed when�
  • The safety and integrity of the magnetic environment is maintained at all times. Conducts regular inspections of all coil and scanning accessories, as evidenced by service reports.
  • Patient safety is demonstrated in the department and magnetic suite by appropriate screening techniques, as demonstrated by risk management reports.

  • Acts as a backup for other technologists in the department as needed.
  • Additional duties are correctly and appropriately completed within the specified time frame as required by managers/supervisors.
