Job Summary:
The Manager of Public Works and Infrastructure is responsible for the efficient and effective operation, planning, and construction of new and existing infrastructure within the Municipal District of Taber. This role involves supervising construction, commissioning, and rehabilitation projects, ensuring they comply with regulations and budgetary constraints. The manager also plays a pivotal role in educating and assisting municipal ratepayers and stakeholders in understanding relevant regulatory processes and requirements.

Daily Work Activities Include:

  • Review engineering plans, tender documents, and project documentation to ensure project success.
  • Ensure contract and regulatory compliance for all assigned projects.
  • Administer capital public works projects within approved budgets.
  • Coordinate the development and rehabilitation of infrastructure by external contractors, following municipal policy.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including government agencies, contractors, engineers, and the public, to ensure open communication and cooperation.
  • Oversee infrastructure construction, including proposals, design, budgets, and work quantities.
  • Provide technical support for road construction projects by M.D. crews and private contractors.
  • Ensure safety measures for construction projects, liaising with oil and gas companies, utility companies, and other entities.
  • Review and report on pipeline and utility installations and damage incidents.
  • Oversee the inspection of road allowances and well site approaches.
  • Provide support and assistance to the Director of Municipal Operations.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes to achieve an efficient and effective organization.
  • Responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the public works and infrastructure department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Knowledge Required: ● Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent combination of experience and education. ● Familiarity with municipal operations, road construction, and procurement. ● Comprehensive knowledge of regulations and compliance. Experience and Technical Skills Required: ● 3-5 years of experience in Municipal/Public Works or environmental contracting. ● Supervisory experience in road and infrastructure construction and repairs. ● Valid Class 5 Operator’s License or willingness to upgrade. ● Ability to coordinate Alberta One-Call and manage heavy construction equipment. ● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. ● Strong organization and leadership skills
