We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as our next Natural Areas Team Lead. In this role you will put to use your qualifications and expertise in Environmental Maintenance to maintain, protect, and enhance our City’s natural areas.

As our Natural Areas Team Leader, you will be responsible for undertaking a range of tasks in and around the City of Melville’s natural areas, such as…

  • Carrying out scheduled maintenance within natural areas including firebreak maintenance, weed control, planting, fence maintenance, brush cutting, seed collection and graffiti removal.
  • Providing supervision, training and leadership to the environmental maintenance team.
  • Contributing to business improvement by using initiative and generating new ideas.
  • Providing support and advice to community groups and residents working in natural areas.

    Skills and Experience Required:

  • Experience as a supervisor or team lead in a Parks or Environmental Maintenance position.

  • Experience in the safe operation and maintenance of plant and equipment including identification of maintenance issues.
  • Knowledge of weed control methods in bushlands/wetland, native seed collection techniques and the safe and effective use of herbicides.
  • Sound experience in plant and weed identifications.
  • Sound experience in bushland regeneration and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Legislation and Occupational Health and Safety Standards.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certificate IV of Conservation and Ecosystem Management or equivalent.
  • Current ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence.
  • White Card.
  • Chainsaw Operation/Tree Felling Qualifications.
  • Desirable - Forklift Licence.
  • Desirable - Basic Bushfire Training.
