Description:

Essential Tasks:

  • Being able to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Maintain and support all network systems (hardware, virtual, and software) at the Clerk’s Office including but not limited to all Courts, non-courts, remote and internet accessible applications and equipment.
  • Act as Clerk technical liaison to vendors in the implementation of new systems and the upgrade of existing systems.
  • Work with external agencies including but not limited to the Polk County Board of County Commissioners, FDLE, DHSMV, State Attorney, Public Defender, and Court Administration.
  • Assist various departments in the testing and implementation of new and existing network systems including upgrades.
  • Train employees in the installation and basic troubleshooting of all Clerk network systems.
  • Responsible for installation and support of network hardware and software.
  • Responsible for overseeing assigned local area network operational procedures including system security and data integrity including disaster recovery.
  • Ensures that all LAN, WAN, Wireless Fiber Optic and Virtual environments and related equipment are maintained in a good state of repair.
  • Provides connectivity between the Clerk platforms.
  • Sets up procedures for reporting and ensuring timely response to network and personal computer operational problems.
  • Maintain and backup network devices and corresponding data.
  • Troubleshoot network performance issues.
  • Analyze network traffic using hardware and software tools.
  • Provide network capacity and project planning.
  • Assist in the purchase of network hardware and software for the Clerk’s Information Technology Department or any other Clerk department as necessary.
  • Maintain Clerk network infrastructure.
  • Track and renew various annual network maintenance and vendor contracts.
  • Act as backup to the Desktop Support team to assist in resolution of daily service calls.
  • Act as backup to the Clerk Help Desk to assist in fielding of calls and emails and assign work tickets accordingly.
  • Maintain UPS systems.
  • Assist IT staff as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Some overtime may be required.

Minimum Skills/Qualifications:

  • Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred, OR a minimum of 2 years of direct experience. Prefer MCSE or Cisco Systems certification. Fortinet certifications a plus.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, and a binary numeration system.
  • Thorough knowledge of standard WAN, LAN, Personal Computer and Network equipment used in the Clerk’s Office.
  • Ability to effectively understand networking issues and apply administrative techniques necessary to support assigned networks.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of user software, hardware, and network systems including but not limited to Dell, Fortinet, and Ubiquity. Knowledge of VMWare a plus (network configuration).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization. Ability to communicate with people from varied backgrounds.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to research resource materials.
  • Ability to research and understand policies and manuals to insure compliance in the areas of information system implementation and accountability.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage work to meet necessary time requirements and work load.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail and to remain calm in an anxious, intense environment.
  • Ability to cover work of other employees to ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Ability to remain flexible as conditions change and continue effective performance in the face of additional challenges.
  • Ability to make quick, objective decisions.
  • Knowledge of Florida statutes, County and Clerk’s policies and procedures.
  • Ability to research and understand policies and manuals to insure compliance in the areas of information system implementation and accountability
