Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

Incumbents operate, maintain and repair telecommunications equipment and provide technical assistance to end users and installers. Responsibilities may include scheduling service calls, determining service call charges, diagnosing and resolving difficult or unusual customer issues, adjusting charges based on issues with service, maintaining and updating the customer database, and monitoring the network for outages.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (These duties are a representative sample, position duties may vary.)

  • Installs, configures, repairs, upgrades, and maintains network systems and telecommunications equipment; monitors the network for outages
  • Coordinates service calls which includes prioritizing service calls, diagnosing & resolving difficult or unusual customer issues; and adjusting service charges
  • Prepares & maintains system reports; maintains a variety of operational records
  • Maintains and updates a customer database
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

Training and Experience (positions in this class typically require):
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field and one year experience in network administration, communications and customer service; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. A minimum of 3 years broadband/engineering experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field.
Experience
3 years experience in network administration, communications and customer service desired.
Certifications & Licenses
Network+, A+, Security+, CCNA, CCNP all Preferred but not required; CPR/AED or ability to obtain upon hire
Other Requirements
Equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job also considered

  • Network protocols;
  • Network maintenance tools and equipment;
  • Basic network design, maintenance, and implementation practices and procedures;
  • Network operating systems;
  • Diagnostic analyzer tools and equipment;
  • Customer service principles;
  • Recordkeeping principles;
  • Computers and related software applications.

Skills (required at entry):

  • Troubleshooting and resolving network problems;
  • Providing customer service;
  • Troubleshooting network connectivity and cabling faults;
  • Utilizing complex diagnostic analyzers and related equipment and tools;
  • Preparing reports and maintaining records;
  • Installing and configuring network services and protocols;
  • Using computers and related software applications;
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledgeable of Network protocols, Network maintenance tools & equipment; Basic network design, maintenance & implementation practices and procedures; Network Operating Systems
  • Knowledgeable of Diagnostic analyzer tools and equipment
  • Knowledgeable of Customer service principles and practices
  • Skilled in Basic Computer and related software applications
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and resolving complex network issues & network connectivity & cabling faults;
  • Skilled in Utilizing complex diagnostic analyzers & related equipment & tools
  • Skilled in Installing and configuring network services and protocols
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service through verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work independently/individually, and to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions
  • Ability to communicate clearly & concisely both written & through the spoken
  • Ability to apply principles of logical/scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual/practical problems
  • Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task
  • Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety
