Description:

Communication responsibilities To promote a professional, welcoming, and caring environment endorsing a Family Friendly approach to care. Providing and receiving routine information where there may be barriers to understanding. To inform and liaise with the Hearing Screening Local manager on all aspects of hearing screening related to your role. To establish a working rapport with other team members and contribute to team meetings.
Providing advice and instruction or training to parents/guardians, where the subject matter is straightforward. To liaise effectively with parents, team members and other health care professionals. Recognise importance of utilising translation services for service users whose first language is not English. Analytical & Judgement Be able to complete Quality Assurance of technical equipment.
Undertake initial patient assessment of suitability for screening. Analyse outcomes of neonatal hearing screening and be able to advise parents/ guardians in a professional manner of next steps within the hearing screening pathway. Demonstrate knowledge of computer systems and clinical process, contributing to improvement of these channels to support best use team resource. Planning and Organisational Be able to work within a team to plan daily tasks and output of service Be able to work within a team to support planning of activities within a shift Be able to work within a team to plan patient care Be able to work within a team to plan and organise workload under pressure when circumstances become complex.
Patient services To carry out the hearing screening of newborns within the Maternity services and accurately record clinical and test data. Provides clinical technical services to neonates. To maintain up to date knowledge of procedures and policies relevant to this post. To maintain the confidentiality of the babies and their families at all times.
To ensure the safety and security of equipment at all times and report any problems to the Hearing Screening local manager at the earliest opportunity. To ensure patients and families retain their dignity, privacy and individuality at all times. Be aware of child protection issues and adhere to local procedures. Service and Policy Development With support from the department manager, implement policies for own work area and proposes changes to working practices or procedures for own work area.
Be pro-active in bringing about change within the service. Financial responsibilities Support the department manager in acquiring and monitoring the use of screening equipment and supplies- maintain stock levels and be responsible for the procurement of resource. Maintain responsibility for the safe use of equipment within the department. Maintain responsibility for maintenance of resources.
HR responsibilities Take responsibility for audits and submitting accurate and timely statistical information as required by the Department/Trust to enable the monitoring of Key Performance Indicators. Maintain the high standards of the department by contributing towards individual, team, service and Trust objectives. Advise the Local Programme Manager Manager of any circumstances which give cause for concern in relation to staff conduct and performance or Health and Safety. Establish and maintain safe systems of work within the department or area of work in line with Health & Safety at Work Acts, EEC and COSHH regulations etc.
Information Management To be responsible for maintaining one or more information systems where this is a significant job responsibility. Research and Development (includes Risk & Governance Management) To participate in the reporting of safety incidents To support the department manager in investigating safety incidents Freedom to Act (includes Autonomy, Management and Leadership) Is guided by precedent and clearly defined occupational policies, protocols and procedures. Demonstrate ongoing personal development through participation in internal and external development and training opportunities. Ensure compliance with mandatory training Maintain an up to date personal development plan (PDP) Participate in own appraisal (MPA) Undertake any operation or production problems by the Local Programme Manager.
Report any operation or production problems to the Maternity Outpatient Manager. Mental Effort There may be unpredictable interruptions within day to day work- the ability to respond and react to this is vital to this role. Emotional Effort Occasional exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances
