NUCLEAR INSTRUCTIONAL CONTENT DESIGNER
Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Nuclear Instructional Content Designer to work in our Materials and Fuels Complex Training department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex with every Friday off.
The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking applicants for a Nuclear Instructional Content Designer reporting to the MFC Training Department Manager.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
R0300/0400: Bachelor’s degree and 5-8 year’s relevant experience or a combination of 13-16 years of education and experience, of which 3-5 years as an SRO will be considered.
Willingness to obtain the INL Instructor Qualification.
Senior level training experience in nuclear facilities in any of the following technical areas; nuclear operations, engineering/technical staff; maintenance (mechanical, electrical, I&C, or work planning); or a combination of the above.
Perform analysis and development (student and program) of technical training observing DOE Order 426.2, associated Handbooks and Guides to Good Practices, and INL and MFC training practices that utilize the training (SAT) methodology.
Must present work to others for peer checks and accept constructive feedback to improve product.
Must have a understanding of nuclear facility operating practices to include principles of Conduct of Operations and Conduct of Research.
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy “L” clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Preferred:
Degree in STEM field
Either qualified or previously qualified Senior Reactor Operator.
Experience implementing the SAT process in commercial or nuclear industries.
Experience developing and creating reactor training programs, nuclear operations, engineering/technical staff, maintenance (mechanical, electrical, I&C, or work planning or a combination.
Responsibilities:
The Nuclear Instructional Content Designer leads efforts using operational and experience to develop training content using the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) to meet DOE Order and INL training standards. Conduct job analysis to identify if a training need to develop lesson content and qualification programs with a consideration on adult learning styles and complete evaluation paperwork on assigned training programs. Complete and document all the SAT process to ensure compliance with training expectation. You can expect to spend 90% of their time in the analyzing, developing and evaluation phase and 10% of their time in front of the classroom instructing.
Lead the facilitation, interaction, and training product development with diverse subject matter disciplines to include Operations, Engineering, Radiological Controls, Nuclear Criticality Safety, and Management staff. Interface with operations and research personnel regarding facility training initiatives and communicates task status promptly. Lead in the development of solutions to a variety of training problems of scope and complexity. Apply experience in a way that aides us in meeting the objectives of the MFC mission.
Functions of this role are:
- Write and develop a variety of training products including lesson plans, tailgates, student materials, on-the-job training checklists and performance standards, qualifications programs, written exams, walkthroughs, oral boards, etc.
- Understand subject matter in such a way as to organize material into an instructionally sound work product.
- Requires the technical knowledge to interpret fluent in complex operational concepts to include nuclear theory, radiation protection, and purpose/significance of Nuclear Safety Basis, Conduct of Operations and Conduct of Research.
- In partnership with subject matter staff members, maintain examination question banks using the LXR system; develop, schedule, administer, grade and evaluate written and oral examinations.
- Schedule and implement training. Maintain complete and accurate case files for all course materials following BEA/INL defined standards.
- Track certification, qualification, and training requirements for you to ensure certifications and qualifications do not expire.
- Conduct training evaluations, and with supervisors, develop solutions to a variety of training problems of moderate scope and complexity.
- Provide all training services including needs, job and task analysis, training design, training development (lesson plans, drill guides, dynamic learning activities, OJT guides and performance standards)
