Description:

Proactively and positively contribute to the achievement of the patient experience through individual and team effort. Support your team members to deliver on their functional-relevant objectives through offering advice, guidance and support as appropriate. Participate in departmental activities and assist with risk control, ensuring that approved budgets are spent effectively and in accordance with agreed procedures. Liaison with Senior Professionals and related functions to ensure that work is neither overlooked nor duplicated.
Build and sustain effective communications with other roles involved in the shared projects, programmes or tasks as required. Maintain and continuously improve specialist knowledge in an aspect of Health Service which significantly contributes to the Trusts stated objectives & aims. Maintain and improve your knowledge & understanding of the health service arena; including health systems, policy development and current issues. Establish and maintain strategic links with a range of external partners/stakeholders or supervise the links made through the team.
Engage with external partners/stakeholders to gain their necessary level of contribution & commitment to the successful delivery of your work. Undertake evidence-based practice for either developments relating to Trust work or opportunities for Trust involvement around health issues. Increase the level of knowledge & skills within the Trust through documenting key learning and supporting others to develop their professional abilities. Dissemination of knowledge through engagement in report writing, academic writing, coaching and reviewing, taking full responsibility for clinical accuracy and reliability and being sensitive to the wider implications of that dissemination.
Ensure that expertise is seen as a resource within and outside the Trust and form working partnerships with government departments, national agencies and key stakeholders internationally, nationally, regionally and across sectors. Conduct examinations across a wide range of nuclear medicine procedures including the more specialised procedures such as cardiac, brain and Single Photon Emission Computerised Tomography (SPECT). Scanning upon a range of patient types, both as an autonomous practitioner (within the limits of the ARSAC regulations) and as part of a multi professional team, in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal standards and requirements. Able to interpret Clinicians requirements, to determine the appropriate nuclear medicine procedure and ensure that it is performed in accordance with best practice and that the resultant images and derived results are accurate and contribute to the diagnostic evaluation of the patient.
To administer oral, intravenous injections and intradermal injections of radiopharmaceuticals to patients according to departmental and national standards within the limitations of ARSAC recommendations. To use discretion to work outside departmental standards when clinical circumstances necessitate i.e. undertaking additional or specialist techniques. To independently assess each patient and adapt nuclear medicine procedures according to the needs of the patient.
To check completed acquisitions derived results and analytical data against accepted standards, including patient details and to act appropriately according to findings. To offer advice on the correct nuclear medicine procedure, and the appropriate information required to utilise the service efficiently to other practitioners and clinicians. To extend their role as appropriate. To train and supervise new staff, to mentor junior staff and facilitate their development.
Assist the Superintendent Radiographer in identifying staff training and development needs. To offer an educational role to junior staff, students, SPRs and other health care professionals working within or visiting the department. To be able to use the departmental radiology information computer system to register patients, to check results and appointments. To be able to use the radiology PACS computer system to register patients and transfer and authorise patient records.
To communicate effectively and appropriately with all users of the service, across all age groups and abilities, observing confidentiality and information governance. To relate to all manner of patients with understanding and care, respecting their privacy and dignity to provide a caring and confidential service. To manage own workload and to help other members of staff when possible. To work as part of the departmental health care team.
To participate in the on call/out of hours rota if requested. To be competent in the use of all the nuclear medicine equipment at all sites within the Trust remit and to report all equipment faults to the Superintendent Radiographer. To manage and delegate contamination, monitoring and cleaning tasks. To undertake the departmental and Trust induction programme.
To adhere to all Trust policies including the Health and Safety Regulations; COSHH Regulations; the Data Protection Act and Hospital and Directorate Clinical Governance Strategy. To comply with all radiation protection policies such as Ionising Radiation Regulations (1999); Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations- IR(ME)R (2000); Radioactive Substances Act (1993); ARSAC; Medicines Act (1968) and Local Rules. To observe all manual handling criteria when moving patients from waiting areas into the nuclear medicine rooms, administering radiopharmaceuticals and other listed treatments and medications, transferring patients on and off the nuclear medicine table and positioning patients into the correct position. To undertake any further duties as required when requested by the Superintendent Radiographer or Diagnostic Imaging Services Manager.
Lead by example, maintaining in clinical expertise, promoting high imaging standards and appropriate use of radioactive substances within the Nuclear Medicine Departments. To use discretion to work outside departmental standards when clinical circumstances necessitate i.e. undertaking additional or specialist techniques. Able to conduct clinical examinations, upon a range of patient types, both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi-professional team, in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal standards and requirements.
Undertake data entry/analysis and image processing and direct supervision/assessment of staff and students as and when required. Ensure radiation protection and maintain systems of work with regard to personnel allowed into supervised and controlled areas. Develop personal effectiveness in Nuclear Medicine and Radiopharmacy techniques by updating and maintaining knowledge of recent developments. Maintain CPD.
Manage and be responsible for staff and resources within a designated clinical area. Ensure delegated tasks are appropriate and correctly supervised. To assist with the departmental patient diary on a daily basis. To liaise with colleagues to ensure effective organisation of the daily clinical workload.
Deal with complaints and grievances from staff and patients within the department. Assist with the co-ordination of maintenance programmes for nuclear medicine equipment, including the fault reporting and liaising with engineers. Ensure that a positive and professional image is presented to users of the Nuclear Medicine Service, and that positive relationships are developed and maintained
