IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE BASIC REQUIREMENT ABOVE, TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION YOU MUST ALSO MEET THE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS LISTED BELOW:

Education/Experience: A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) which includes providing comprehensive nursing care to medical or surgical patients, monitoring specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors, defibrillators, suction devices, etc., and administering medications.
OR
Education: A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
EXEMPTION: You are exempt from the qualification requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet one of the requirements below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) from a professional nursing program
OR
Three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education from a professional nursing program.

Help

• Provide full spectrum care to patients on Pediatrics; Medical; and Surgical wards.
• Set up, operate, and monitor medical equipment such as oxygen masks, Ambu bags, intravenous infusion pumps, wall suction, pleurovacs, wound vacs, electrocardiogram machines, orthopedic supportive devices, and others as required.
• Interpret findings and report to the healthcare provider, those findings which indicate a detrimental variation in the progress of the patient.
• Recognize significant and life-threatening changes in patient condition, including changes in adult and pediatric patients, and take appropriate action.
• Utilize professional nursing methods and processes to identify and manage immediate health care needs for non-urgent patient problems; recommend self-care, as appropriate, for nursing assessment, and as advised by approved clinical protocols.
• Participate with the Clinical Nurse Officer in Charge in developing and enforcing unit policies, to include compliance with system requirements.
• Assist and/or monitor staff preparation of patients for surgery and their post-operative care.
• Coordinate the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients from the unit.
