BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses on Ontario;
  • Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program. Note that current certification as an NP is preferred, however, candidates currently enrolled in a Nurse Practitioner program are invited to apply;
  • Current certification in CPR Level-C Healthcare Provider required;
  • Experience working in an acute care environment;
  • Demonstrated organizational, conceptual, and leadership skills required;
  • Demonstrated advanced practice skills and competence in interpersonal relations, problem- solving, communication, collaboration and innovation;
  • Demonstrated ability to perform autonomously;
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to constantly changing, unpredictable situations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two (2) years Thoracic Surgery experience;
  • Experience as a Nurse Practitioner in an acute care environment;
  • Proficiency in English and French - oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension and comprehension (advanced level).

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in nursing - developing, promoting and maintaining an interdisciplinary collaboration in a team environment;
  • Integrate the skills and knowledge of the Thoracic Nurse Practitioner in a collaborative practice setting;
  • Work in partnership with registered nurses and other disciplines to provide holistic patient/family centered care and advance the practice of thoracic nursing;
  • Participate in planning and implementing change related to clinical, educational and research issues in nursing;
  • Participate in integrated medical care in collaboration with the Thoracic surgeons and Residents;
  • Provide clinical leadership related to advanced nursing practice issues, and scope includes the roles of a clinician, educator, consultant, and researcher;
  • Promote liaisons among nursing and other health disciplines in the care of the patient and family in the hospital and in the community;
  • Practice continuous learning for self and team;
  • Provide leadership and participate on quality improvement working groups and projects;
  • Work collaboratively with nursing educator to roll out clinical practice changes and support the thoracic in-patient units and clinics and follow the patient along the continuum of care
