About the Health Contact Centre
The Health Contact Centre (HCC) is part of the Queensland Government’s commitment to addressing the growing demand in health services in Queensland. The HCC operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week delivering confidential telephone assessment and information services to the people of Queensland. The HCC strives to educate and empower people to make informed choices about their health and health care, promoting better health through the delivery of evidence-based clinical practice. Since its inception, the HCC has expanded to provide a wide range of services that can be accessed by the public via the phone numbers 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84), 13 QUIT (13 7848) or online.
Child and Family Health Service
The aim of the Child and Family Health Service is to deliver a tele-Triage and tele-Child and Family Health Service to callers across Queensland. The service incorporates family partnership principles with parents and carers which values diversity and is safe, of high quality, evidence-based, person-centred and delivered by a skilled, well supported and knowledgeable team. Family partnership principles are utilised in the delivery of services that include health education, anticipatory guidance, parenting skills, development and support, and are aimed at promoting the parent-child relationship ensuring the best health outcomes possible for the child.
The role

The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) is a Nursing Grade 7 position who is accountable at an advanced practice level for leading and coordinating the Child and Family Health Service to achieve best practice standards for clinical practice, patient centred care within a healthcare team and is responsible for the provision of effective and efficient human, material, and financial resource management.

Your key responsibilities
Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with Schedule 2, Nurses and Midwives (Queensland Health) Award - State 2015 - Generic Level Statements (GLS) Nurse Grade 7 and the Queensland Health and Queensland Public Service values in achievement of the organisational goals and Domains of Practice.

Domain 1: Direct comprehensive care or provision of direct care

  • Accountable for Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and own standards, actions and the outcomes of own nursing practice, professional/clinical advice given and for all delegated activities.
  • Responsible for providing safe, compassionate care, integrating the nursing and midwifery Professional Practice Model, quality frameworks and Person-Centred Care approaches of caring for each patient’s psychological, social, emotional, spiritual, and physical care needs. This supports achievement of best clinical practice and individualised patient care and outcomes.
  • Accountable for delivery of contemporary nursing practice, patient outcomes and the achievement of associated service performance targets/indicators within the HCC and Child and Family Health Service

Domain 2: Support of Systems

  • Integrate key objectives from the Department of Health strategic plan, HCC operational plan and clinical service profiles into service delivery for the Child and Family Health Service.
