Your opportunity

Nursing Service and Productivity core business is expanding to include being a central nursing recruitment hub for the MHHS. The Nurse Unit Manager role reports to and will support the A/DON & Midwifery, Workforce and Informatics by:

  • Liaising with NUMS/MUM on staffing recruitment requirements, vacancies and staff surpluses.
  • Consult with NUMS/MUM to make the most of the opportunities that come with recruitment of staff that have special skills/training/experiences.
  • Set up relevant communication channels with the key stakeholders.
  • Ensure advertising process is in line with HR policy
  • Keeping records and reporting responsibility
  • Reporting KPI’s at relevant meetings
  • Make use of relevant benchmarking and networking opportunities
  • Have up to date knowledge on Nursing/Midwifery staffing profile across the HHS
  • Organising interview times and dates
  • Organising panel members
  • Interview Panel member as required
  • Keeping the recruitment process timely
  • Provide daily feedback to A/DON Workforce and Informatics.
  • Work closely with Associate Nurse Manager Nursing Services and AO4 Nursing Services

About the Team
The Nursing/Midwifery Resources Team supports organisational and business strategy with a specific focus on the Nursing and Midwifery workforce. There is a connection with various stakeholders to bring about the planning of Nursing and Midwifery workforce to meet the needs of the patient, the staff, and the organisation. The unit also aids in rostering, HR and payroll support to nurses/midwives, Managers, Directors, Executive leaders, and other key stakeholders utilising many different IT systems. The Nursing/Midwifery Resource Units core business is expanding to become a centralised nursing recruitment hub for the MHHS, including co-ordination of agency nurse contracts and deployment.
The unit consists of Assistant Director of Nursing & Midwifery and currently two Administration officers. Nursing Services will expand to include a Nurse Unit Manager, Associate Nurse Manager, and a further AO3 to support centralisation of nursing recruitment. The nursing services team works closely with the Nurse Manager Resources and Productivity (BPF).
Mackay Hospital and Health Service has six hospitals, two multi-purpose health services and four community health centres that employ more than 3,700 staff. The district covers an area of approximately 90,000km2 and provides services to patients and their families in Bowen, Cannonvale, Clermont, Collinsville, Dysart, Glenden, Mackay, Middlemount, Moranbah, Proserpine and Sarina.
