  • A Master’s degree is required.
  • Holds a current APC with the New Zealand Nursing Council.
  • Good understanding of the socio-political context of healthcare in NZ.
  • An Ara-recognised teaching qualification
  • Sound knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in vocational education
  • Sound knowledge of equity and its importance in the tertiary sector
  • Working knowledge of kaupapa and mātauranga Māori and its application in a tertiary context
  • Ability to provide professional leadership and act as a role model.
  • Embraces Ara values/ mātāpono and kaupapa.
  • Works collaboratively and co-operatively and contributes positively to teams.
  • Nationally or internationally recognised reputation.
  • Experience in and proven ability to provide leadership.

Responsibilities:

To provide professional leadership and oversight of teaching staff and will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of programmes meets the outcomes contained within the programme documents and meets or exceeds student and industry expectations.

The position requires the incumbent to:

  • Assist the Head of Department and other departmental Managers in planning as required.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities required to deliver on the strategic and operational objectives in respect of academic components and matters of programmes offered in the department.
  • Assist in in the planning of learner experiences, staff workload and resource allocation.
  • Assist the departmental leadership team to assure academic quality, compliance and to develop capability.
  • Commitment to support initiatives aimed at raising achievement of Māori and underserved communities.
