HEALTH NEW ZEALAND – LAKES

Fixed Term 1.00 FTE (Including on call)
We are seeking a generalist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, to replace a colleague who is taking parental leave for 18 months from June 2024.
You would join our team of 8 Specialists. This position is full time including on-call, however applications from specialist seeking part time employment or a 12-month appointment will also be considered. We have a happy supportive team with great collegiality and a strong focus on equity for Māori.
An individual with strong Gynaecological surgical skills is desirable but not essential. We have a stable experienced team and would be happy to consider applications from newly qualified specialists seeking a supportive environment to commence their consultant career.

The successful candidate will:

  • provide services in Rotorua and Taupō Hospitals.
  • participate in a 1:6 acute call roster and enjoy excellent support from our Anaesthetic, Surgical, Radiology and Intensive Care teams. There are well established links with tertiary centres for support.
  • The O&G Team consists of eight specialists (two job share), three registrars and dedicated O&G SHO support.
  • The department is accredited by RANZCOG for O & G registrar training.
  • We also provide attachments/teaching for 5th and 6th year medical students from Auckland Medical School.

Lakes provides healthcare for a population of 114,000 people through our hospitals located at the centre of the North Island of New Zealand, at two stunning settings next to Lake Rotorua and Lake Taupō. Rotorua, Taupō and Tūrangi are internationally acclaimed for trout fishing and Mt Ruapehu for snow skiing. The district is also well known for its other outdoor recreational options including tramping, cycling, mountain biking as well as lake and river water sports such as boating and kayaking. Rotorua is less than one hour’s drive from the Bay of Plenty coast that offers lots of sun, good surf, boating, fishing and deep sea diving. Rotorua is the tourist centre of the North Island of New Zealand.
The hospital has recently upgrading birthing unit and maternity ward areas, ICU and theatres, and a state of the art ambulatory outpatient area for Gynaecology, to facilitate outpatient hysteroscopy and Colposcopy/LLETZ.
Membership of RANZCOG (or equivalent) is required. Applicants must hold or be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
