  • Lead and assist the AESAOM’s O&M business areas to optimally operate and maintain renewable energy generation assets in South Africa, aligned to the O&M Agreement with the Owners
  • Lead and assist the company and its Maintenance Services, ensuring a safe operation.
  • Together with the AESAG General Manager: O&M, ensure the Maintenance Services provided to internal and external clients meets all policies, procedures, contracts, and regulations.
  • Ensure highly motivated work environment and provide guidance to support Plant Managers to ensure optimal performance from site staff.

Job Description

  • Ensure compliance with all contractual obligations in terms of the O&M Agreement with the Owners.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to Plant Managers in delivering maintenance services, in order to maximize availability, production and revenue from generation assets on behalf of asset owners.
  • Ensure a continuous improvement culture is maintained within the production business area.
  • Responsible to review Maintenance Plans prepared by Plant Managers.
  • Develop a culture of health, safety and quality, ensuring the maintenance of safe working practices and compliance with regulation.
  • Responsible to give input into or develop (as appropriate), monitor and manage the OPEX and CAPEX budgets for AESAOM and the owners.
  • Report on safety, technical, budget, contractual and resource issues, based on input from Plant Managers.
  • Give input into and ensure the deployment of improvement and development strategies on site
  • Responsible to meet target deadlines for special plant improvement projects.
  • Accountable to review, approve and send reports to external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal stakeholders, clients, suppliers and contractors.
  • Assist Plant Managers or the Owner to manage the relationship with Eskom and applicable authorities.
  • Influence and work with other sections of ACCIONA to develop the operations and maintenance of generation assets.
  • Ensure that a strong working relationship is maintained with ACCIONA with respect to common processes and procedures.
  • Delegate responsibilities to the chain of command while upholding all company policies and procedures.
  • Develops, evaluates and motivates for the reward of the staff.
  • Ensures that the assets’ O&M systems are applied, consistent with overall company policies and guidelines.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • General knowledge of and experience with operation and maintenance of medium voltage switchgear and circuit breakers, protective relay systems, inverters, wind turbines and high voltage transformers and high voltage switching.
  • Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Degree, ECSA registered (required).
  • Ideally, holder of a GCC (Factories) or working towards this.
  • 5 years’ proven managerial experience within wind/solar energy environment.
  • Must be able to travel within South Africa and abroad.
  • Must have a proactive approach.

  • Excellent delegation skills
  • Excellent reporting skills in writing and presentation.
  • Valid driver’s license
