Description:
Leading Rehabilitation Provider for Traumatic Brain Injury – Full-Time
ABI Rehabilitation is the specialist provider of neuro-rehabilitation services. This role is located within the Hamilton Residential Service.
Our Hamilton Residential Neuro-Rehabilitation Service is seeking a motivated and passionate Occupational Therapist to join our highly skilled and supportive inter-disciplinary team. This role will provide occupational therapy rehabilitation interventions for adult kiritaki/clients with severe traumatic and/or acquired brain injury and work with kiritaki from the post-acute phase through to community re-integration and discharge.
We are seeking a NZ registered Occupational Therapist. Previous experience in neurorehabilitation is preferred, but not essential. You will be part of the IDT, and there are opportunities to liaise with OTs working across different sectors within ABI Rehabilitation. ABI offers ongoing professional development, and regular clinical supervision.
You must be able to work closely with different disciplines within a small clinical team and then also be comfortable providing instruction to therapy or rehabilitation assistant staff. If you are friendly, honest, have good verbal and written communication skills, and are able to work autonomously.
Residential Rehabilitation begins at the subacute phase, which starts after a period of intensive rehabilitation, so the focus becomes more on functional real-life goals, leisure and improving quality of life outcomes. Our OTs in our Residential Setting (share the workload over a number of residential houses) clinical work includes: Kiritaki activities include direct therapy intervention, art, baking, sports, hydrotherapy, celebration of special events, and community-based activities.
You will be helping kiritaki identify rehabilitation goals, assess skills and identifying occupational performance issues and then develop rehabilitation programs to assist kiritaki regain and rehabilitate skills that have been impacted by severe brain injury.
You will be working with kiritaki and their whanāu in the areas of personal cares, transfers, functional mobility, equipment management (with support from specialised equipment assessors), cognitive and social skills, leisure and group activities and community integration.
We have a strong kiritaki and whānau/family focus and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi through the implementation of Te Hekenga-ā-ora (ABI’s Māori Development Plan 2022-2025), to ensure equitable outcomes.
ABI looks forward to hearing from you!
