Description:

Welcome to Brent, we are offering an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist who would like to develop and consolidate their clinical skills within our Brent Adult Acute inpatient service.
You would be working alongside the Multi-Disciplinary team, with service users experiencing functional mental illness.
As part of the OT team you will support service user’s to develop the functional skills needed to be able to engage in the daily meaningful activities they need and want to do which they may have stopped doing whilst unwell. Supporting access and engagement in mainstream activities, to support service users in managing their own mental health is an essential part of the role.
The Occupational Therapist will be expected to complete initial occupational and functional assessments, care planning, outcome measurements, reviews and discharge planning.
Clinical Supervision and Professional Development plans will be provided to the successful applicant.
You will have the opportunity to enhance your skills in a number of areas, which includes:
Sensory integration for service users with complex emotional needs and neuro-diverse needs;
Regular Trauma Informed Approaches training and team formulation
Weekly on site training covering a number of skills (Motivational Interviewing, Crisis Management, risk assessments and more)
Model of Creative Ability Training
Offering OT specific one-to-one and group interventions; e.g. Recovery Through Activity and Sensory Awareness
To manage a clinical caseload
To work as a member of the MDT
To support the development of evidence-based OT practice
To provide OT specific assessment & interventions via groups & individual work related to: self-care, work and leisure
To contribute to service development of Local & Trust wide OT services
To work independently with direct supervision
To act as fieldwork educator (newly qualified will build up to this within the first year) to students on practice placement.
To develop skills, knowledge, and experience through participation in preceptorship and the Band 5 development programme

The Occupational Therapist will work clinically on allocated ward/wards to provide the multidisciplinary team (MDT) on the treatment ward with an occupational therapy service and expertise; this will include individual and group work, assessment, intervention and evaluation in accordance with the Royal College of Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics.
Specific to assessment the Occupational Therapist (OT) will utilise MOHO evidence based assessment tools in order to establish a baseline functional assessment from which recommendations can determine further on going care and treatment to enable optimum functioning.
To manage a caseload of service users with complex, severe and enduring mental health needs; using evidence based practice, recovery principles and trauma informed approaches to assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment.
To contribute to service development of Local & Trust wide OT services.
To undertake the Preceptorship process as outlined by RCOT guidelines and CNWL Trust policy where applicable.
To act as fieldwork educator to students on practice placement.
