Job Description
The Community Stroke Rehabilitation Team is a nationally respected Early Supported Discharge Team. It is an essential part of the Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust’s Stroke Pathway, ensuring the timely transfer of patients out of hospital for rehabilitation at home.
We are looking for a band 6 Occupational Therapist for a permanent full time (37.5 hours) staff member. The post would be based with CSRT (mostly working Monday to Friday 8 – 4, however flexible working arrangements can be discussed).
The post holder will be responsible for management of a complex caseload and supervision of non-registered staff and providing support for junior cross professional MDT staff. Experience of working with patients with neurological deficit is essential, community working desirable. You need to be a confident car driver and user, as the team covers a large geographical area.
You will be a part of a large but very closely working interdisciplinary team, so excellent communication skills will be essential and experience of delegating therapy programmes, and training of support and other MDT staff will be valuable.

JOB SUMMARY

  • To be responsible for providing specialist, evidence based Occupational Therapy service within CSRT, adapting interventions to meet patient and CSRT needs, using advanced clinical reasoning skills, investigative and analytical skills as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Provide support to the Senior OT and other seniors within CSRT.
    Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional knowledge acquired through degree or equivalent, plus short specialist courses, experience to post-graduate equivalent diploma level
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Evidence of recent relevant CPD
  • Car owner and licence essential

EXPERIENCE

  • Computer literate
  • Experience of community working
  • Experience of working in stroke care
  • Experience of managing other staff/students

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • An awareness of research and evidence-based practice within stroke care
  • Knowledge and application of OT assessment process
  • Knowledge of OT outcome measures
  • Knowledge of OT models of practice
  • Knowledge and application of standardised assessment
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload, working autonomously with ability to instruct and direct others
  • Good organisational skills
  • Articulate and knowledgeable of current professional issues, specifically relating to stroke

  • Ability to adapt to change within working situations
