Description:

Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department, is accepting applications for at least one (1) Limited Term, Full-Time Office Technician (Typing) vacancy which exists in the Human Resources – Employment Unit.
This position reports to the Human Resources Employment Manager but may receive direction from the HR Director and/or Training Officer. A significant emphasis is on confidentiality, customer service, dependability, exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills. This position is highly visible, fast-paced, and demanding which is critical to the administrative procedures and technical support within HR. This position is for 12 months but may be extended up to 24 months with the possibility of becoming permanent.
Under the general supervision of the Employment Unit Manager, the Office Technician performs a variety of duties in support of the Human Resources Employment Unit and Human Resources reception area. This position will require a high degree of self-initiative and independence. The candidate must be able to maintain confidential and administrative files, and work in the fast-paced environment of the Human Resources Employment and Reception area. In addition, the candidate will also conduct live scans for potential hires, volunteers, contractual employees, medical residents, students, and interns. The candidate will assign, activate and de-activate badges and Personal Duress Alarm System (PDAS); assist in organizing and preparing Patton’s weekly bulletin and other duties as assigned. The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining database of Criminal Offender Record Investigation (CORI) reports which requires confidential setup of administrative reviews for approval and/or denial; processing E-Verify internet-based system operated by U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration to verify new employee hiring eligibility status; performs initial technician review and screening of all 5408 Personnel Transaction requests for accuracy, initials, and signatures; maintains spreadsheet used for tracking of all Personnel Transaction Request (5408s); ensures accurate completion of I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification documents and appropriate supporting documentation of citizen and noncitizen authorized hires in accordance with Department of Homeland Security/U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services; conducts new employee orientation, and assembles new employee orientation packets; prepares new employee Official Personnel Files for Employment Manager review; prepares Patton bulletin; schedules pre-employment physicals and live scans; prepares employment related written correspondence for Employment Manager; requests new employee personnel documents from other state agencies for transfer/reinstatement employees.
Desired Qualifications: Applicant should possess excellent computer skills, writing skills, and ability to learn and apply regulations. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is essential. This is a job requiring moderate activity; standing, walking, twisting, bending and stooping. The OT must present a professional appearance and demeanor, be dependable and have a demonstrated excellent attendance record, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, able to multi-task, exercise tact and good judgment when interacting with the public and departmental employees, be highly organized, and maintain confidentiality of personnel related issues. The position may require prolonged walking and standing as well as pulling, pushing, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions
Patton is a forensic psychiatric hospital and was established in 1890 and opened in 1893. DSH-Patton provides treatment to forensically and civilly committed patients within a secure treatment area. The hospital does not accept voluntary admissions.
