the opportunity
Given recent and forecasted growth, we are looking for an OLE Design Engineer, to help provide support to their growing multi-disciplinary rail business based in Manchester.
Our client who are an engineering and construction contractor working closely with a wide range of clients, across a number of disciplines within the UK rail industry. They offer both design and construction solutions to the sector through our inhouse engineering and project delivery teams.
the role
As an OLE Design Engineer, you will be responsible for providing design deliverables that satisfy safety and quality requirements.

your duties and responsibilities will be

  • Provide design deliverables that satisfy safety and quality requirements.
  • Produce design calculations and drawings.
  • Direct and develop CAD technicians and more junior designers and graduates.
  • Prepare design reports and specifications.
  • Design in compliance with relevant technical, professional and group standards.
  • Ensure project change for design package is fully implemented and recorded.
  • Undertake work using formal processes and procedures.
  • Estimate hours required for design packages.
  • Present and attend IDC meetings and design presentations.
  • Detailed design for existing OLE amendments and new OLE provision associated with new freight turnout on MML.

you will have the following skills and experience

  • The successful candidates should come from either a construction or engineering background, ideally with experience of the UK rail industry.
  • 2 + years relevant design experience in OLE.
  • Graduate or HND.
  • Good level IT.
  • Results focussed.
  • Strong technical knowledge.
  • Problem solving.
  • Technical Discipline.

you will have the following professional qualifications

  • Experience in new OLE and upgrading existing systems.
  • PTS Certificate (preferred not essential).
  • Awareness of construction methods and materials.
  • Knowledge of Group Standards.
  • Knowledge of Engineering Drawing Practices.
  • Good understanding of NR standards, procedures and HSE legislation.
