The Role
We are seeking an Open Pit Engineer – Production and Projects to support our Open Pit Department at Telfer, reporting into our Open Pit Production Superintendent. This role will focus on safe, cost effective, efficient production with a particular focus on safety.
Roster: FIFO 8 days on, 6 days Off- flying on Fridays.
Site: Telfer Operations- Located in the Great Sandy Desert 2 hours flight from Perth.

Key Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and technical assistance to the Tech Services Department.
  • Review and advise on weekly and 12-week rolling production schedules to support safe and cost-effective Open Pit production.
  • Design and optimise infrastructure for long-term goals, including roads, pit shells, ROMS, rehabilitations, and long-term dumps.
  • Scope and manage production-related projects, including cutback preparation, surface water management plans, and closure needs.
  • Plan and oversee mine dewatering activities and in-pit infrastructure planning as well as evaluation of dewatering infrastructure.
  • Contribute technical input towards achieving annual open pit operating budget targets.
  • Analyse QA data, monitor dig rates, hang and queue times, and equipment utilization.
  • Engage proactively with stakeholders to resolve conflicting objectives and ensure smooth, safe production operations.
  • Implement and maintain procedures, processes, and databases for production engineering functions.
  • Consistently comply with Telfer safety managements systems, environmental requirements, internal team safety requirements and other relevant targets.

About you

You are an experienced and motivated engineer with expertise in optimising production processes, ensuring safety compliance, and managing complex projects. You possess excellent technical and project management skills, with a proven ability to design and implement infrastructure solutions that enhance operational efficiency.

  • Relevant Bachelor of Mining Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Strong background in Open Pit mining operations or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Vulcan and Deswik software is advantageous.
  • C Class Manual Licence
  • Full Australian Working rights
