Responsibilities:

Wells Fargo is seeking an Operational Risk Manager/Senior Lead Control Management Officer as part of the Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) Banking Control organization which is responsible for providing risk and control leadership and expertise across the CIB Banking business. CIB Banking is the relationship management and market development function for Wells Fargo’s Corporate and Investment Bank that is focused on service to multi-national corporate and institutional clients. The business is comprised of industry sector-specialized teams of corporate bankers, investment bankers, and credit portfolio managers; as well as product-specialized debt capital markets (DCM), equity capital markets (ECM), and merger and acquisition (M&A) investment banking teams.
In this role, you will:

Assist the Banking lines of business (LOBs) in executing their responsibilities emanating from risk, control and compliance (RCC) programs and related initiatives according to applicable policies, procedures and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate is responsible for partnering with team members from the first, second and third lines of defense across the organization to implement and execute all aspects of enterprise-wide and CIB RCC programs and initiatives from start to completion. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Establishing and cultivating strong relationships across the organization serving as a point of contact for all RCC activities related to their assigned risk assessable units (RAUs). This includes coordinating the activities of teams with ancillary responsibilities for the RAU (e.g. Evidence Based Control Evaluation [EBCE], Independent Testing and Validation [IT&V], Operational Risk Business Oversight [ORBO], Compliance, Audit and others).
  • Leading execution of RCC programs using risk management, control, process and business expertise; ensuring risks are monitored and mitigated appropriately, our businesses remain within regulatory rules and guidelines and risk management information is current, correct and useful for informed decision-making.
  • Using cultivated partnerships and relationships to provide connectivity and consistency across risk programs and lines of business and functions.
  • Collaborating closely and influencing team members in mitigating risks via providing expertise on 1) Remediating control deficiencies including designing action plans and root cause analysis; 2) engaging in the development and implementation of new controls and; 3) designing effective means of control monitoring and measurement.
  • Identifying and analyzing emerging risks impacting the RAU including internal and external operational risk events (OREs).
  • Determining the impact of “trigger events” (AKA “business environmental changes") and coordinating appropriate responses; drive updates of all related systems, data and information.
  • Ensuring systems of record are accurate according to current risk management guidelines.
  • Identifying and remediating “data hygiene” issues ensuring all related risk, control and compliance data is accurate and of sufficient quality to be useful in making decisions.
  • Developing, maintaining, monitoring and reporting on risk measures, metrics and risk appetite.
  • Collaborating on follow up and resolution of all issues, inquiries and challenges emanating from EBCE, ORBO, IT&V, audit, regulatory and compliance testing and review activities; incorporate results of internal and external review activities into risk and control assessments.
  • Coordinating activities across risk capabilities and acting as a seine and funnel to ensure data is appropriately analyzed and augmented, reaching the appropriate destination as meaningful information.
  • Providing risk management consulting to support the business in designing and implementing risk mitigation strategies, business processes, and business controls.
  • Leading and assisting on other programs as necessary e.g. new business initiatives, enterprise risk identification and assessment (ERIA), issues and exam management and policy/compliance changes.
  • Escalating issues and problems expediently and presenting risk initiatives results and other topics to the CIB Banking Risk Committee and other leadership forums as necessary.
  • Leading execution and implementation of changes to risk programs, risk profiles, policies, procedures and other governing documents and processes.
