Job Title: Operations Manager
Reports to: Director of Operations
Direct Report: Store Managers
About the role
Operations Manager’s play a key role in helping our business to grow and succeed. It’s their job to ensure that the store operations are running smoothly ensuring Melrose and Morgan is a better place for our customers to shop and eat in and our colleagues to work in.
It is really important our Operations Managers create an inclusive environment for all managers and colleagues, where everyone feels valued. Ensuring they role model great leadership skills they also oversee all aspects of the store including achievement of all operational KPI targets, driving high store standards, excellent safe and legal compliance and ensuring our managers are highly capable and motivated in order to create a high performing and engaged team.
You will liaise with key stakeholders on a daily basis so teamwork skills are important.
Your Responsibilities

Cost and Targets

  • Manage the control of cost throughout the operational department, highlighting any problem areas and suggesting appropriate actions to be taken
  • Responds to operational audits to ensure continual improvement is achieved
  • Implement best practices and drive continuous improvement through creations of SOP’s

Retail shops:

  • Manage the effective implementation of the retail visual merchandising under the guidance of the Director of Operations in collaboration with the Sales and Marketing Team
  • Ensure that the relevant training and operational documents are created and updated by the team including daily checklist, cleaning schedules and opening and closing shift guidelines
  • Lead the managers in developing a culture of ownership and accountability

Maintenance

  • Ensure the Retail Managers have the contacts and tools in place to look after their shops maintenance
  • Ensure that the fire safety polices are up to date, trained out, understood and adhered to by the shop managers
  • Look after the successful rollout of future MM stores and locations

Training:

  • Oversee the consistent upkeep of online Harri training across shops, providing managers with monthly progress reports to ensure completion in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the induction of new starters
  • Motivate managers to effectively manage their teams and set standard for customer service in line with company values
  • Drive product knowledge through business by utilising supplier training programmes
  • Manage the training and implementation of H&S procedures across the business for compliance

Staff Management

  • Support managers in recruiting for the right person when needed
  • Support managers in managing performance of their teams, helping to create target led goals and shaping the personal development
  • Ensure all appraisals are carried out with relevant goals being set.
  • Ensure that managers are dealing with absence level, performance issues and conduct issues following correct guidance from HR.

Stocktakes

  • Ensure stocks takes are carried out monthly and are sent to Head office

Requirements for the role

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Strong leadership skills with the capacity to listen and respond.
  • The ability to influence, listen and understand the external perspective to inspire and think broadly about new ways of doing things.
  • Strong coaching skills. You must be able to give feedback to ensure common ways of working.
  • A passion for driving talent and creating a successful team culture.
  • The ability to resolve challenges and build trust between the full store team.
  • The power to create a culture that fosters and values collaboration.

Technical Skills

  • Good IT skills word, Excel, streetwise etc

Required

  • Usually, at least 5 years of experience as a Area/Operations Manager, or similar relevant position
  • Experience with food and beverage industry
