SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Training/Qualifications
  • Rail industry safety qualification (must be willing to secure on commencement of role)
  • LF Forklift license-experienced (over 3 years)
  • RS qulification an advantage
  • Experience
  • Empty container handling experience essential
  • Minimum 1 year container park operations experience in a team leadership role desired not essential
  • Minimum 3 years as a Forklift Operator in an Empty Container Park
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in team engagement, cultural development and process improvement
  • Ability to effectively liaise with 3rd party clients and customers within the Depot
  • Knowledge of WHS requirements and obligations
  • Skills/Techniques
  • Strong written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills appropriate to this position
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Prior experience using computer-based maintenance systems
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels and to build and maintain relationships with internal and external parties
  • Computer literate with experience in word processing, spread sheets and online software and records management systems
  • Sound understanding of container park storage practices within a logistics environment
  • Able to train forklift drivers and ground staff on operational procedures

Responsibilities:

FHR currently have a very exciting opportunity for an experienced Yard/Operations Supervisor to join a client in a permanent, fulltime position based in Port Botany, Sydney.
Key Responsibilities
To manage the profitable and timely movement of incoming and outgoing containers via road and rail and follow all safety and environment requirements by effectively leading and managing teams on your shift to meet operational and customer needs while remaining cost effective.

The role will provide a range of services including but not limited to:

  • Yard operations
  • Lead forklift teams to ensure safe and efficient movement of containers through yard
  • Effectively communicate with Reefer Supervisor, Container Control team and Maintenance and Repair team regarding resources to ensure that customer requests are prioritised appropriately to meet business needs and stakeholder expectations
  • Ensure responsible management of resources
  • Communicate asset or staff shortages to Operations Manager
  • Supervise teams and internal resources to allow for response to requests for container services
  • Assist in the capture of financial maintenance data against work orders * Oversee the implementation of controls relevant to Park operations as per Traffic Management Plan requirements.
  • Rail operations
  • Supervise teams and internal resources to allow for response to customer requests for container services
  • Oversee rail operation tasks including monitoring and managing the Rail coordinator
  • Ensure compliance to ONRSR/licensing records for the Rail Infrastructure Manager (RIM) accreditation.
  • People leadership
  • Prepare rosters for Forklift Operators
  • Ensure daily time sheets are signed off and completed in Bio time
  • Provide leadership, direction and coaching for all direct reports
  • Observe team members to ensure that all are adequately trained and assessed as competent to safely perform their respective duties
  • Coach, mentor and directly supervise employees
  • Maintain employee productivity to meet customer service level agreements
  • Maintain employee engagement and positive workplace culture that fosters great performance
  • Safety management
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment through adherence to Company Health Safety and Environment policy and procedures are observed as well as relevant Safety Legislation and the provisions of the relevant Health, Safety and Environmental Acts
  • Assist in facilitation of daily team meetings and regular Toolbox Talks to ensure staff are across all safety updates
  • Assess equipment needs and maintenance issues on a regular basis to ensure safety is not compromised.
  • Site and assets management
  • Assist other managers/supervisors in ensuring sound yard and asset maintenance
  • Maintain knowledge of and implementation of the Emergency Management Plan.
  • Maintain knowledge of and implementation of the Site Security Plan.
  • Manage local damage claims in collaboration with HSSE team and other managers
  • Act as key point of contact for all internal and external stakeholders regarding containers and equipment
  • Assist other managers/supervisors in budget management for equipment-related maintenance and services
