Description:

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Distribution Facility Manager, the Operations Support contributes to the safe and efficient operation of a fertilizer distribution facility to achieve production goals.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid Canadian Class 5 driver’s license
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Forklift, machinery, and equipment operation experience preferred, but not required
  • Must be able to read/write English.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate, service, and troubleshoot machinery.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as required to meet seasonal demands. Work schedule will include some weekend duties.

Responsibilities:

Facility Operation

  • Engage with the team to operate the facility equipment on a daily basis.
  • Receive crop inputs by rail and truck and facilitate movement to desired location in the plant.
  • Operate facility equipment including various power mobile equipment, stationary conveyance such as augers, belt conveyers and bucket elevators, and the automated blending system.
  • Ensure plant and yard are clean and safe for customers and employees.
  • Perform minor mechanical maintenance and may assist contractors on-site to perform repairs.
  • Conduct operations as set out by CN Rail for non main track facilities
  • Blend and ship fertilizer to ensure that customers receive the products and services they require in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner.
  • Assist in managing the facility crop inputs inventory by following existing controls to minimize inventory losses.
  • Follow all operational policies and procedures to operate equipment safely and efficiently to minimize or prevent injuries, property loss and environmental damage.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Safety and Maintenance

  • Perform general maintenance and housekeeping responsibilities
  • Participates in regular facility inspections and monthly safety meetings to review procedures, housekeeping, and safety awareness issues.
  • Remains trained in and certified to handle dangerous goods as per the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and has additional safety training, e.g. WHMIS, confined space, forklift, etc.
  • Participates in training to acquire and maintain knowledge on operator care principles to operate facility equipment safely and effectively.
