About us
As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue, Rural Fire Service Queensland, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
Purpose of the role
Reporting to the Manager - Operations Business Management, support QFES Fire and Rescue front-line service delivery through the supply and resupply of operational equipment and/or consumables to effectively support all operational functions within the region. Participate in repair, replacement and/or testing of operational equipment (including hose) in consultation with the Equipment Officer. Facilitate transportation of QFES vehicles (including fire appliances) and/or personnel as required. Support emergency and/or disaster events with logistical supply of operational equipment (or as required).

Mandatory Requirements
- Applicants wishing to be relieve in the ROSO role, must provide evidence of or successfully completed the following: A current Manual Medium Rigid (MRV) driver’s licence as recognised by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
Highly desirable requirements
- Forklift - High Risk Plant Ticket
- Warehousing and/or Logistics knowledge and experience
- Previous Materials Handling and/or Courier experience.
- Current serving QFES Auxiliary Firefighters are encouraged to apply.
Special requirements
- The ROSO positions are located in three primary locations (logistics hubs):
- Gold Coast Zone - Southport
- West Moreton Zone - Beenleigh
- West Moreton Zone - Ipswich.
- The regional OSO will assist where required with regional operational capability once the Regional Incident Management Trailer/s (RIMT) are deployed inter or intra-region, and may be required to supply and setup any of the RIMTs dedicated to operational remote response to large-scale incidents or events, whilst maintain the highest levels of WHS operational standards throughout all environments.
Your key accountabilities
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
- Support QFES front-line operations through the consistent supply and replenishment of associated equipment and/or consumables.
- Maintain accurate equipment inventories and stocktaking records indicative of critical supplies, whilst undertaking general warehouse operations through the Financial Management Practice Manual (FMPM), including inventory held in storage locations.
- Undertake transport requests’ throughout designated areas and/or where operational support (including operational incidents/events) may be required.
- Assist in vehicle transport involving operational appliance (primarily Type 2 and 3 Fire appliances) as required in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
- Transport QFES Fire and Rescue personnel, operational equipment and clothing (PPC) to incidents and/or other locations (as required) in accordance with QFES policies and procedures.
- Assist where required to facilitate transportation and scheduling of all operational equipment that requires testing and tagging’ (as determined by the Equipment Officer).
- Arrange (through the Equipment Officer) for all equipment that is unserviceable’ (out of service date) to be taken out of duty, tested and tagged accordingly or alternative disposed (with approval).
