Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Ophthalmic Nurse Practitioner within the AMD / Nurse Practitioner Team .
Ophthalmology services are based at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport which provides a hub with care also being delivered to both adult and paediatric patients at multiple hospital sites across the health board, health centres and ODTC’s (Ophthalmic Diagnostic and Treatment Centres) based in partner sites including high street opticians. As a speciality Ophthalmology sits under the umbrella of scheduled care and we are lucky to have a large dedicated ophthalmic nursing team comprising of specialist nurse practitioners, registered nurses HCSW’s and assistants who work alongside a comprehensive MDT
Candidates should be forward thinking, have the ability to manage a team and demonstrate a sound innovative leadership style. The ability to demonstrate excellent communication/decision-making and motivation skills are key qualities. You will need to demonstrate continuing professional development and a strong commitment to developing others and providing/developing safe, quality care for stakeholders and relatives.

The main duties of the job include to assess, develop, implement and evaluate appropriate programs of care and treatment for patients requiring specialist ophthalmic services including emergency care, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and pre-operative assessment.
To undertake intra-ocular injections of anti-VEGF agents as directed by Royal College of Ophthalmologists / NMC guidelines.
To contribute to the smooth running of the department in terms of taking charge in the absence of Outpatients Manager/ Deputy.
To promote evidence based practice and act as an accountable role model and clinical expert.
To act in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
