JOB SUMMARY:
You will help design and develop optical systems, devices, and components for the most demanding automotive visual inspection tasks by leveraging extensive research, performance analysis, and bench testing. You will use your knowledge and skillset to put the best science into practice and will be constantly learning new technologies to keep up with the market and offer improvements.
You will work in the small Optics Department and collaborate with other cross-functional teams to integrate systems into industrial environments. You will be focused on extracting the highest quality of information for the deep learning inspection software platform—the heart of Musashi AI.
Reports to: AI/ML Engineering Manager
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical or Systems Design Engineering or equivalent.
- 1+ year(s) of relevant engineering experience.
- Knowledge of optics.
- Proven troubleshooting experience.
- Aptitude for research and investigation.
- Comfortable with least one programming language – Python preferred.
- Comfortable with 3D modeling (SolidWorks).
- Strong attention to detail.
- High level of creativity, problem solving, and collaboration aptitude.

Responsibilities:
- Use mechanical engineering and optics techniques to develop optical and imaging systems.
- Use theory and exploratory results to improve data quality and output.
- Evaluate and troubleshoot existing automated test systems, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Implement modifications to existing automated test systems to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Translate customer/vendor requirements and feedback into inspection criteria requirements.
- Conduct the required applied research to support the development and testing phases of each project.
- Develop testing protocols that enable a variety of analyses of optical products, components, and systems.
- Collaborate with different engineering departments to enhance functionality and achieve target timelines.
- Read and interpret technical drawings and datasheets to suggest model and process improvements.
- Operate scientific measuring devices and equipment to acquire data.
- Prepare detailed verbal and written reports outlining procedures and methods leading to results.
- Conduct research on new technologies and processes to optimize the design and output results.
- Adhere to the quality and safety standards, and regulations relating to the use of optical equipment and systems.
- Assess project costs, risks and issues and make recommendations/solutions.
- Perform regular maintenance and calibration of optical inspection systems to ensure precise measurements.
- Investigate new technologies and make value propositions to improve system efficiencies.
- Travel to other Musashi facilities for projects, meetings, and training.
- Perform other related duties as required.
