Responsibilities:

FIRST is a key strategic initiative of the University with a national and growing international profile. In collaboration with Macquarie University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, the FIRST programs aim to inspire the next generation to choose science and engineering degrees and career pathways. Macquarie University is the home of FIRST programs in Australia which includes all aspects of running the programs nationally. This includes but is not limited to coordinating events, training teachers and students, developing curricula, raising sponsorship, creating innovative programs to increase the number of schools involved and interfacing with partners from around the world.
The Faculty of Science and Engineering is seeking an experienced Outreach Manager to develop and set the strategic directions for the FIRST programs in Australia. This role oversees the development and implementation of the full suite of FIRST training programs, the annual schedule of events, outreach activities and initiatives each year. Responsibilities include developing and advancing the reach and impact of the FIRST programs both nationally and internationally with the aim of increasing partners and participants. You will oversee the progression of pathways between FIRST levels and work to assess, adapt and implement changes from LEGO and from FIRST USA headquarters into the Australian market to enable a coherent and sustainable progression of pathways for participants. A key responsibility will be to foster and build connections and partnerships with external stakeholders and industry partners to support the FIRST Australia suite of programs.

  • A degree or qualification and equivalent experience in Science, Engineering, Business Administration or a similar discipline.
  • Knowledge of the education sector in Australia and internationally.
  • Knowledge of how people learn and how to develop programs and activities to enhance and promote the learning experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan at both strategic and operational levels with strong organisational skills to ensure the delivery and implementation of operations and services.
  • Proven ability to provide leadership and encourage a collaborative and cooperative work environment across a variety of stakeholders.
  • Exceptional relationship management skills with the demonstrated ability to develop effective strategic and operational relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong customer service focus and ability to work effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent project management and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage a diverse team and extensive network of volunteers.
  • Proven ability to exercise initiative and autonomous judgement.

Desired

  • Knowledge of the external market and context relevant to FIRST Robotics.
  • Working knowledge of the full suite of FIRST programs globally and in Australia.
  • Knowledge of both local and international pathways to Macquarie University Degrees.

Salary Package: HEW Level 8 from $115,030 to $127,995 p.a., plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading.
