UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH PHYSICIANS ARE HIRING A FULL-TIME PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT OR ACUTE CARE NURSE PRACTITIONER TO HELP SUPPORT CARDIOTHORACIC SURGERY AT UPMC SHADYSIDE.

Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
Location: UPMC Shadyside with possible travel to Presbyterian, Passavant, St. Margaret, Natrona, Mercy, East and associated telemedicine and in-person clinics.
Position Specifics: Pre- and post-operative care for thoracic surgery patients with complex lung and foregut disease. 70% clinic staffing and 30% patient follow-up and department communication for 3 surgeons.
Department Details: The Thoracic Surgery Division cares for patients with a wide range of disorders affecting the lungs and esophagus. Surgeons in this division are at the forefront of developing new minimally invasive surgical techniques and creating new approaches to care for patients with complex lung and foregut issues. APPs in this department are an integral part of the team from first diagnosis to the operating room to long term management and help to manage care in a variety of sites and situations. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team currently consisting of 11 surgeons, 31 APPs, 15 RNs and 20 other additional support staff. The position reports to the Division APP Supervisor.

LICENSURE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND CLEARANCES

Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP):

  • The successful completion of an approved acute care nurse practitioner program is required
  • BSN, MSN is preferred
  • Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience is preferred
  • Current state RN license and CRNP certification are required
  • National certification, eligible for licensure by Pennsylvania board of nursing, eligible for certification as a CRNP by Pennsylvania state board of nursing
  • Current CPR certification is required
  • Act 33 Clearance will be required
  • Act 73 Clearance will be required
  • Act 34 Clearance required

Physician Assistant (PA):

  • A graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) is required
  • BS or MS candidate is preferred
  • Experience as a physician assistant and/or experience in a clinical setting is preferred
  • Current state PA license certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required
  • Current CPR certification is required
  • Act 33 Clearance will be required
  • Act 73 Clearance will be required
  • Act 34 Clearance required
