Description:

As the Packaging Supervisor you will have an opportunity to directly impact the success of the operations team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supervise a team of 2 to 20 workers including local Canadian workers, International Agricultural Workers, and Temporary Work Agency Workers
  • Supervision includes
  • daily reporting of performance metrics
  • daily attendance
  • daily time keeping
  • health and safety accountabilities as described in the BTN Employee Handbook and corresponding SOPs
  • Main area of responsibility – Spring Packaging and Christmas Production
  • Under the direction of the Operations Manager, supervise (as above) the picking and packing teams during the busy spring season as well as during the ramp-up and busy Christmas Program
  • Creating packaging plans in Excel using company database (SAP)
  • Explaining and organizing team to execute packaging plans, pre-production plans and Christmas Program daily plans
  • Ensure quality standards of both product and packaging requirements are met (packaging type, labels, etc…)
  • Ensuring workers/team have all necessary tools to complete assigned tasks
  • Track worker/team progress against pre-determined Targets
  • With the Operations Manager and other supervisors, innovate current processes wherever possible to achieve better results – more efficient, less costly and safer work
  • Other areas of responsibility – Production, Product Maintenance, Shipping+Receiving
  • Supervision of tasks and/or independent work as described above
  • Daily reporting and inventory control
  • Contribute to daily operations meeting with other supervisors and managers
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively between departments, with subordinates, with colleagues and with upper levels of management
  • Coordinate activities of workers across departments
  • Train workers on Standard Operating Procedures
  • Ensure staff are properly educated on the use of tools and equipment that have Industry or BTN training programs
  • Responsible for Inventory transactions of all consumable items and final product including:
  • Movement Reports
  • Production Reports
  • Packaging and Shipping Reports
  • Storage tracking

The ideal candidate will bring with them:

  • Proficiency in Excel (Intermediate/Moderate level)
  • Proficiency with other computer software (Microsoft Word, SAP, etc…)
  • Ability to safely operate warehouse and farm equipment including forklifts, tractors, loaders and farm implements (mowers, tillers)
  • Speak and comprehend Spanish is an asset
  • Excellent ability to understand and follow both verbal and written instruction.
  • Possess excellent supervisory skills and be able to work, with their group, efficiently in the absence of the Operations Manager or other managers.
  • Excellent ability to analyze and critique processes and pursue continuous improvement and efficiency.
  • Possess excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to transmit clear instruction, both verbally and written, to employees
  • Promote a positive, safe, professional and productive work environment.
  • Possess good math skill level. Add, subtract, multiply & divide.
  • Understanding of proper lifting procedures
  • Ability to work in fluctuating indoor/outdoor temperatures & conditions.
  • Ability to walk freely, bend, kneel and turn free of restriction
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, and stand for most of the day
