Description:

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic registered Children’s nurse to work within the Nottingham Children’s Diabetes team as a Band 6 Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse on a fixed term contact/secondment.
Nottingham Children’s Hospital looks after around 420 children and young people with diabetes. Approximately 70% of our patients are on insulin pumps, CGM or a variety of Hybrid Closed Loop Systems. We are nationally well recognized and continue to achieve some of the best diabetes outcomes in the country.
Excellent team working, effective communication, being highly organised and motivated, in additional to previous experience in caring for children and young people with diabetes is desirable. The post holder will have post registration experience, working with children in hospital, outpatient and/or community settings.
The new post holder will be trained and supported in learning about the complex technology used in CYP with Type 1 Diabetes to enable them to hold a case load of patients and manage their care in a variety of settings, give emergency advise and contribute to training other healthcare professionals.
You will be hospital based with a responsibility to see children and young people in inpatient and outpatient settings, liaise with families at home and provide education to schools and nurseries.

The successful candidate will work as a specialist nurse on a 9 month secondment within an established multi-professional team.
You will be hospital based supporting inpatient care, providing education and support for families. You will also support multi-professional clinics as well as seeing patients independently in nurse led clinics.
You will provide clinical advise and support to families and schools to try and prevent deterioration in illness and reduce hospital admissions. You will provide education and support to nursery and school staff to enable children and young people to return to their usual routines.
You will be involved with starting patients on new technologies and providing patients and families with ongoing education and support to reduce the risk of short and long-term complications
