Our Children’s Unit includes a 12-bedded inpatient ward with one High Dependency bed, supported by our Paediatric Assessment Unit and 6 bedded day case area. Outpatient clinics also run Monday to Friday from within the unit.
As part of this role you will be expected to rotate to Peterborough City Hospital Children Wards for up to three months of the year to extend your knowledge and skills in paediatric nursing.
We are a busy department in what can be a fast-paced environment. The right candidate will need to be a good communicator, be innovative and self-motivated. They should be committed to the provision of high standards of patient care for our children and families.
Ensure that patient care remains a priority in inter-professional practice and that referrals to the MDT are timely and discharge planning takes place where appropriate.
Be aware of the safeguarding agenda, ensuring protection and identification of vulnerable patients.
Ensure effective working relationships are established and maintained with colleagues across the Trust.
We are looking for a flexible individual to work full time or part time hours. Our current shift pattern is 11.5 hour shifts on internal rotation to cover evenings and weekends.

1. Develop and discuss, with senior nursing team, new ideas and methods of practice to ensure the service is improved and developed as an ongoing
process.
2. Ensure that Trust clinical policies and procedures are complied with within the ward. Informing the Unit Sister of matters, which affect the implementation of the agreed policies.
3. Assist with the provision of child centred care that incorporates the needs of children of all ages and stages of development.
4. Work closely with the children and their families, being sensitive to their needs and promote family centred care within the ward environment.
5. Act as an advocate for children wherever they are within the Trust and hospital setting and to advise colleagues on all matters concerning the nursing care of children.
6. Assess the needs of patients within the clinical area, plan and implement
individualised holistic nursing care.
7. Be self-motivating in ensuring the delivery of effective and sensitive evidence based care to a high standard at all times acting as a role model to more junior members of the team
